Bottom-Line: With the Winter Frost Luncheon Plate, we got a winning combination of simplicity and elegance.

My wife and I have very different tastes when it comes to ornamentation on dinner plates.  I like interesting colorful patterns.  She doesn't.  So we compromised.  I selected a beautifully patterned service for 8, and she chose Corelle's Winter Frost plates for more occasion use and for re-heating food in the Microwave oven.

My Viewpoint

We selected the Corelle Winter Frost White Luncheon Plate because it is perfect in both form and function for everyday use. At some point in our lives, most of us have eaten a quick meal on a bland Corelle dish-thin, virtually indestructible, and usually with an uninspired pastel floral border.

The "Winter Frost" collection has given Corelle a much needed makeover.  Or should I say, "make-under."  Gone are the juvenile floral print borders of yesteryear (although you can probably still buy them if you're fond of them).  Winter Frost is artistically minimalist; faintly sculptural; bright white and basic.   Like a solitary, well formed egg, or a perfect snow-white daisy.

The plates are thin, but well weighted.  They feel lightweight, yet solid, in your hands.   There is no scalloped edge or oversized rim.  The 10.25" luncheon plate is flat at the base, and then ever-so-gently slopes upward toward the rim.   There is a hint of opalescent quality in the brightness of the pure white color.   It is this pure, basic quality that makes them a perfect backdrop for any style of décor.

One of the reasons that Corelle has remained so popular is because their products are so functional.   They are lightweight and stackable, which means they have taken up a minimum of valuable real estate in our cabinet.

A well known quality that this plate also offers is the ability to cover leftovers on the Corelle with simple plastic wrap and stick it in the fridge.  The plate migrates easily from refrigerator duty, to microwave, to table, and finally to the dishwasher.  We've  had them for a year now and so far, we haven't had any problems with staining, chipping, or cracking.

Best of all, the Winter Frost Luncheon ware is very affordable and can be purchased either as a complete set, or individually (Check out kitchencollection.com).  In addition to the various sized plates, there are serving bowls and platters, pasta and cereal bowls, mugs, and divided plates available.  We purchased 8 Winter Frost Luncheon plates at $2.39 each.   You can't beat the price for the quality, versatility, and practicality of this product.

Yes, we still have the gold-rimmed, decorative plates for dinners and special occasions.  But my wife was right in her assertion that every household needs a basic set of Corelle.  With the Winter Frost Luncheon Plate, we got a winning combination of simplicity and elegance.
