Although the sun can sometimes feel like a mythical legend here in Michigan since we don’t see it very often, when it does come out it is powerful and dangerous to sensitive baby skin (adults too but that’s another review). With a family history of melanoma (skin cancer) I don’t want to take any chances with my little ones. I’m not really a fan of keeping my 2-year old cooped up in the house so Coppertone Water Babies helps me feel confident about having them out in the wonderful sun. My mom thought the Coppertone Water Babies Sunscreen Spray would be perfect for a little one. It is... with one exception.

Water Babies is a SPF 50 sunscreen, which is pretty heavy duty sunburn protection, that comes in spray bottle for easy application. Though it does ensure you don’t over squeeze sunscreen into your hand, the spray isn’t much easier that a regular lotion bottle. Since my guys are little and wiggle around a lot I tend to spray the lotion in my hand to apply. Even if I do spray it on, the sunscreen still needs to be rubbed in to ensure an even coating or they would end up with reverse freckles.

As the name implies, Coppertone Water Babies is considered a waterproof sunscreen. Numerous times we have use this around water with absolutely no problem and no burnt kiddos.

SPF 50 provides a great amount of burn protection. Last summer when Little Man lived in his pool he was always coated prior to entering the pool and never had a burn and really just a mild tan. This summer, when the nanny has taken the kids to the beach for the day, I noticed she had missed a spot because there was a distinct between ale skin and sunburn.

The lotion itself is a good consistency. Once I have it either in my hand or on the kids it stays in place until I can get to it. There is also a mild baby powder-ish scent and neither of my boys have had any skin irritations from it, though they aren’t prone to sensitive skin either.

Our Water Babies bottle has lasted through 2 full summers going on the third and is really only half gone. Overall Coppertone has been a trusted brand for a long time and Water Babies has done its job with my little ones. There have been no major sunburns in at least 3 summers (on the kids anyway).

I agree with your reveiw. Living in GA and having an 18 year old who plays serious baseball and having a pool, we use sunscreen all the time. I love the spray aspect of this product...it's just easier. I am on my 2nd bottle this year. You can get great deals on this before and after summer at Rite Aid or CVS. Double it with a coupon!

We use the spray version of sun screen all the time now. It is so much more convenient than lotion!

Just double check. I bought mine this year but it expires in 2010. (Must have sat on the shelf for a while.)

Great information thanks Katrena. I would assume then that this particular bottle should be good for this summer then. I'll have to look when I get home but it was bought in 2006.

Nice review! I called Coppertone because I couldn't find shelf life info on their website and got curious. Got right in and spoke with a representative who said it maintains its potency until the expiration date. My bottle's expiration date is on the bottom. If it doesn't have an expiration date, you can look at the number printed on the bottle that starts with a number and then a letter. The number stands for the year it was made, so you can add three to that year number. For example, if it has a "7" first, then it would maintain its potency until 2010.

I wasn't sure if that was the case or not. I usually slather them pretty well right now, but the sitter doesn't do so well sometimes. I'll probably look into other brands for the next summer.

Good review!

You may not want to try to use it again next summer, they actually lose "potency" with storage.
