I know this is not actually a great film. It's pretty sentimental and conventional in many ways and the acting while always adequate is not always the best.
I laughed, I was charmed by it and I had a great time the three or four times I have seen this one. John Candy delivers one of his finest performances (and for the record, while I like John Candy, I'm didn't think the guy walked on water).
You should know that this movie is based on a true story. A group of Jamaicans really and truly did enter the 1988 Winter Olympics in Canada in the... now get this... bobsledding competition. There is no snow in Jamaica, so the team trained with bobslebs on sleds with wheels and didn't get to play in the snow until they got to Canada !!!!
Candy plays their coach who has to keep the boisterous crew together and keep them competitive. No great ending, not a spectacular film but this one hit me just right the first time I saw it and it keeps me entertained every time I see it.
Probably best for the 10 and up crowd.
