I received Cookie magazine as a gift subscription. It's geared toward sophisticated, latte-drinking, nanny-employing, Manolo-buying mothers and their young families. Although I could not really relate to vacations at the Hamptons or how to choose a designer to update my artist loft, I found the magazine to be intriguingly readable. The articles are well written and even thought-provoking.
For example, one article caught my attention about a mother with a dilemma. She had a four-year old son who enjoyed playing dress up, and particularly enjoyed the pink tutus and princess gowns. One day, the toddler asked if he could wear a real dress to his nursery school. The article goes on to relate the author's dilemma and it struck me as a universal situation. Often we say we believe in something in theory, but when it happens in our own personal lives, will we stick to our principles in spite of society's expectations? Do we give in when it's our own child? That's the kind of intelligent articles I found in this magazine.
I won't re-subscribe once my issues run out. It has its good points, but ultimately, the not-so-subtle celebration of pricey toddler wear and overpriced handbags really isn't my cup of tea.
