How did my holidays go?  Well, consider this "Bah, Humbug" moment ...

Armed with the ruthless determination to get at least some laundry done, I stuffed one of my old laundry-bag pillowcases full of dishtowels to be washed and promptly lost the whole thing.  Two frustrating weeks later, I still haven't found them.  It just isn't possible for even someone like me to accidentally throw something like that away (and I don't live with anybody else whom I can blame for the mysterious disappearance) so eventually, they will show up.  In the meantime, I could see that my three remaining raggedy-worn dishtowels weren't going to be enough so I ventured out into cyberspace to buy a few reinforcements.

I just wanted something simple, undramatic and absorbent.  If you want those qualities in a kitchen towel nowadays, good luck!  Everything seemed to be in wierd colors and "designer" prints.  I thought I had struck gold in the Sears site but had to give up after more than a few frustrating moments trying to add the towels I wanted to my "cart" with no success or explanation generated from the site.  Flush with my recent successful use of Ebates.com, I used that as a portal to gain entry to Overstock.com where in a matter of minutes I hit "pay dirt" in the form of Contempo Kitchen Towels Model No. 4759T.

These towels were shipped to me in a matter of days and I really love them.  The color I chose was "Canary" which is one of the most beautiful shades of gold I have ever seen in any fabric and will be a perfect accent for my yellow kitchen.  Each towel measures 18 inches wide x 28 inches long made of 100% terry cotton finished on the edges.  Each 18" side is trimmed with a ribbed border and one end is dramatically finished off with a "tonal design with contrasting twill border plus a strip of "velour" sheared terry.  Contempo Kitchen Towels Model No. 4759T are also available in the colors of red, slate blue, basil, sand and if you ever have hunkered for black kitchen towels, this is your big chance.

These towels come in sets of six currently priced at $24.99.  Apparently, I got some sort of special deal on the day I ordered as my set of six cost only $17.95 including shipping and handling (and leave us not forget that Ebate cashback of 90 cents which showed up in my account a few days later!)

MY VIEWPOINT:

If I have one complaint, it is this.  In the Overstock description, Contempo Kitchen Towels Model No. 4759T were billed as machine washable and tumble dry.  Once I got my hands on these towels I noticed that the care instructions indicated that I would have to "machine wash in cold water with like colors".  I have noticed this instruction on other brightly printed or hued towels which I have purchased in the past and don't really like to use cold water to wash dish towels so what I have done so far successfully is to wash kitchen towels in warm water with one of those fabric "dye magnets" which you can toss in with a load to absorb any excess dye which may leach out into the water.  That is what I am going to use this time, and thank God I haven't lost THAT!

I get my dishtowels from Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Kohl's. My holiday towels are more extravagant than my year-round ones. Sounds like you found a good deal.

Re: the other towels. Like my Daddy says, "Quit looking for something and you will find it." But it sure would get the best of me wondering where they disappeared to! ~Gigi
