Of course, watching the condemned was not my idea. I would not have watched if it had not been for my husband. Though he seemed to enjoy it, he is also one who enjoys watching the drama unfold in the wrestling ring each week.
The plot is interesting because a TV producer buys convicts on death row and places them on an island wearing bombs attached to their legs. The idea is that the convicts will fight one another. There are 10 players, of which nine will die, and one winner will get freedom and win their life.
As interesting as it is, it is also gruesome and disgusting. The convicts, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, fight one another and eventually turn on the TV producer and his staff. The fighting is never ending and the bloodbath seems inevitable.
The whole time the TV producer is planning to show this as an Internet reality program that is widely publicized. It does make a statement on the voyeurism we have and how we enjoy watching reality shows no matter what it puts the contestants through. It says more about the people in our society than it does about the producer or the condemned. It makes us question whether we are the ones who are, in fact, condemned.
I'm not sure anyone who actually enjoys watching a Stone Cold Steve Austin movie would see themselves as condemned. They are more likely to watch the movie to see the intense action and compare his fighting to the other convicts.
I wasn't impressed with the movie The Condemned and unless you are huge stone cold Steve Austin fan, I don't think you will be either.
