You get what you pay for with a Compaq Presario desktop computer

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

Right now we have a Dell laptop, 2 Toshiba Satellite laptops, a Compaq Presario SR132OXN, but Len still wanted another one.

We headed up to Office Depot, as they had a sale on. The CQ5300F was reduced down from $309 to $249.91. He looked at it, and it didn't have the area for a smart media card, and only 1 slot, instead of the 2 slots for the DVD+RW/CD-RW. He told me that he didn't need them, because he would keep the old computer next to his desk, and only use it for certain projects.

So Len set up the new Compaq Presario desktop, and moved his other Compaq to the side of it. The first time he got annoyed was when Windows 7 wouldn't allow him to do what he wanted. It also rejected a...

After being without a computer for several years we found a great deal at Best Buy.  This computer was on a great sale as well as the monitor.  There was a special for eighteen months with no interest.  So this was good as it was going to get.  I think the best thing I like most about my new computer I do not have to travel fifteen miles to the library to us the computer.  I am on my computer several times a day.  At the library you can ony be on the computer an hour.  I am making money using my  computer, so that is really great also.  This computer has everything on it that I need.  It is easy to use.  It is very modern and sleek in style.  It functions great.  The price makes it very affordable and adds to how satisfied I am with it.  I could do without our television and without our phone, but I would not want to be without a computer again.  It is such a great tool for learning about anything I want or need.

So-So, As Far As Computers Go

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I bought this Compac Presario PC SR5712F in January, 2009, at OfficeMax, after my last one died.  The package included an AMD Athlon 3GB processor, a DVD/CD burner, a 500 GB hard drive, Windows Vista, a 90-day trial of Norton antivirus software, a flat screen monitor, a mouse, and a keyboard.  The whole thing cost about $400.

I was not thrilled with the fact that it came with Vista but, by then, you couldn't find a desktop that had Windows XP.  I also was not thrilled with the cheap-looking gray keyboard, but what could I expect for $400?  I continued using the black keyboard from my previous Compaq.  I was very happy with the new flat screen monitor, as the one I w...

bad service

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

everyone I know who has gotten a compaq presario has had issues with it.  When I needed a repair once they sent the parts directly to me.  I took apart the computer and fixed it myself because they never told me what to do.  two weeks later a service professional called me wondering when the best time to install the parts would be.  I then informed him that I didn't need him anymore.  These computers routinely also do not have the upgrade capabilities of most other machines meaning most times you are stuck with what you get as far as hardware goes.  You have to routinely pay more for upgrade slots on your machine.  If you are ok with an "as is"  computer and are ok with servicing your computer with its model's specific problem area, they do usually last 2 to 3 years before they need more help.  I personally prefer a computer that is complete when it comes out of the box though.

Should have went with something else

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I currently have 2 compaq computers...one laptop and one desktop. My desktop has never worked well and my laptop? Well let's say it's been in for a check up more than I have been lately. The laptop compaq presario has had at least 3 different hard drives and my CD rom had to be replaced all within the last three years. It's pretty hard to get anything done on it when it's constantly in the shop. I should have spent a bit more money and bought an original HP computer or gone with a MAC!!

FAST, FAST, FAST!!!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Got this for my b-day last year and I love it.  It is very fast and the graphics are great.  It came with a 19" flat screen monitor (very handy for someone who is 50+).  I haven't had any trouble with it and would recommend it for anyone who loves to go online or play games or download pics or just about anything else!!!

This desktop PC is an awesome computer, that works well!

I am writing this review about a Compaq Prisario AMD

64 Athelon desktop computer.  This computer works really well for me and does everything that I need it to do.  I wasn't sure if I was going to like this PC as I am not a huge fan of HP computer items, and Compaq is owned by HP.  However I have been pleasently surprised with the way that this computer runs.  I am able to do all of the things that are necessary for my business as well as my personal life.  I use this computer to run my home based business, which requires me to work on the internet atleast 4-5 hours a day, I have no problems doing this with this computer.  I also use this computer to check e-ma...

Compaq Presario desktop. It serves my needs.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I am quite happy with my Compaq Presario.  I honestly prefer Hewlett Packard but I couldn't afford one.  This PC suits my needs.  I like to surf the internet, play games, check and write emails so I don't need a real expensive computer.  My previous computer was an HP and I really did love it.  This one is some slower but, as I said, it does meet my needs.  It enables me to stay in touch with my family and friends through email and I enjoy getting pictures of my children and my grandchildren.  As I am living on Social Security and a very small pension, my computer and television are my main sources of entertainment.  I would really be unhappy if I didn't have a computer.  I love to play games, read jokes, look up various health issues and, mostly, stay in touch with family and friends.  I only have one compact disc drive and would prefer to have two.  In time I hope to get a newer, faster computer.

Where can you find a computer that fixes its self?

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

When I first bought this computer off a friend I was a little less than empress seeing as the computer before it was a dell. But, this computer stepped up to the plate and knocked everything I know outta the park. The colors and graphics are to die for and speed is amazing. Sure you might run into those little problems like it becoming slow or something but when that happens just check the updates click to fix the problem in with in minutes sometimes even seconds the computer is back to its normal running speed sometimes even fast. If you have one of those buttons that puts you monitor to sleep then you'll have a rough time waking this amazing piece of equitment up but that really isn't your computers fault more so than the key board itself. It has games like chess or cards with realistic graphics it really feels  like you have the board in front of you. In my opinion this is better then any computer I have had.

The compaq presario with windows 7 is worth every penny.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

If you are a beginner, or financially strapped for cash, this computer will fulfill your desires for accessibility. Click on the question mark icon for anything that you are unsure about and become tutored in no time at all. This computer has speed, updates, and will keep you posted on what to do with reminders and follow-ups.Play with it,familiarize yourself with it and become satisfied with it's performance. The graphics are clearer and only your apprehension will hold you back. It is an upgrade from vista and that is not a problem as far as I can see. It is in the HP family and quality is definitely not lacking.

I love my desktop

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

Well, I bought this computer several years ago, about six or seven to be closer to the time frame. It's a compaq hp presario and has served as an excellent outlet for me, and has enabled me to maintain quite a bit of productivity in so many areas, such as learning, and developing the programs, images, and more that I have created over time. Though at first it was a huge headache and I was starting to think bad things about Microsoft, lol, but that had more to do with the operating system itself and not this particular computer. Though, the operating system came already installed and I felt that some of the initial problems that this one had was their fault. I never could get any help from th...

My Compaq has given 3 years of great service

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

Satisfied with the needs I have with my desktop. High quality service from the tech support. Little or no problems with every day use. I would highly recommend this computer to friends and family. I am not an expert, so the product has been easy for me, to send and receive pictures and emails, also to add attachment's. I'ts been a great help to search and apply for jobs. My wife has also found it as a great tool to research for new jobs. This has been our first desktop , so we really don't have any other to compare to. I first started with dial-up for my intranet service. I now have a cable modem which makes it 100% better in doing downloads. The cable company supplies my with Macafee security software, which I am extremely satisfied with. If your looking for a easy computer I highly recommend a Compaq. If I could afford to give to all my family members I would do so. I have no complaints in the years that I have had my Compaq.

Compaq Presario - not that impressed

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

I really expected more from this computer.  It is the third computer I have purchased.  My previous desk tops were HP's.  The software they came with always kept me safe, with only a few protection upgrades.  I put the same software on this computer and got slammed with a malicious bug within the first three weeks.  I have struggled to set up wireless connection, do not like the way the screens open, and find it to be very slow.

Compaq Presario laptop computer is good

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I do enjoy my laptop for the convenience rather then a PC, I only have issues with all the extra software that it comes with.  You don't need most of it as games and other media types.  I would rather just add all my own that I prefer to use myself as most media and extras are only on a trial basis and after they expire you are not able to afford buying full versions or subscribing to keep them up.  I really do like Compaq/Hewlett Packard other than Dell procucts in general.  Dell is way too pushy in trying to sell you any of their products.  They are not as competent in helpdesk issues, I feel, compared to the great help you get with all Hewlett Packard technicians.  They are very reliable and can help with all issues that I have called about in the past.  Everything was working fine once the call was completed.  I will alwalys purchase Compaq or Hewlett Packard products in the future for  my needs.  I appreciate reliable electronics.

This Compaq Presario works wonderfully.

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I bought this Compaq Presario computer and have had wonderful service out of it.  For the hard drive space and memory I don't have any problems with it slowing down or locking up.  and it has the card readers which makes it nice when I want to process my pictures on it.  I also have plenty of usb ports to add any additional equipment that I need.  It came with all of the software that I need to write reports. I can open several programs at the same time and be on the internet at the same time and none of it slows down.  This helps when I go to some of the auction sites to bid on items that I want to buy.
