Coming Unglued didn't impress me.

3 star rating

thirtysomething, chick-lit connoisseur, a fan of quick, page turning books, not looking for great literature
Pros

fast and easy read, no reference to drinking, smoking, etc.

Cons
main character's antics get annoying, many references to Jesus, God, etc.

I didn't particularly love the first book in this scrapbooking series, Sisters, Ink., but it is summer and I'm willing to read just about anything at this point, so I requested it from the local library.  2 days and about 3 hours (total) later, I've finished the second book, Coming Unglued, and am ready to send it straight back to the library.

The Sisters, Ink series follows four women from different backgrounds/ethnicities who were adopted by the pastor at the local church.  Their adoptive mother has long since passed away due to cancer, but the sisters meet frequently to work, laugh, and talk in her scrapbooking studio.  This particular book focuses on Kendra Sinclair, an African-American artist who spent eight years watching her insecure mother get in relationship after relationship with loser men, some of whom also violated her.  She has been dating Darin for a couple of months, but doesn't feel that she is worthy of such a good man's affection.  Unfortunately, she also is involved in an "emotional affair" with a married man that she met several months ago.  When she's with one man, that's who she sees her future with and when she's with the other, she can't imagine life with the first guy.  As you can imagine, things eventually come to a head and the situation blows up in Kendra's face.

I didn't enjoy Coming Unglued as much as the first book in the series because Kendra seemed to be sabatoging her relationship over and over and over again for no good reason.  I kept wanting to smack some sense into her so I wouldn't have to read about her angst in dealing with the two men.  There also are many references to God, Jesus, and Christian beliefs, so those with other religions may find them offensive, tedious, etc.  Overall, I felt that this book was mediocre and not something that I'd read again or recommend to others.
