We live in an area where there is absolutely no tv reception, at all, if you don't have cable set up. So, while Comcast's basic cable was pretty lame, it did enable us to watch regular, old fashioned network television. The serviceman who came to install the cable arrived on time and was very polite. He even left us some extra cable, in case we decided to move the television. I'm not sure he was supposed to do that, but it was a nice touch, and it did come in handy.

After a few months, we upgraded to a higher level of cable, with a couple of premium channels, and an expansion, so that we could also watch from the bedroom. We also moved up to HD as we got an HD television. Again, the cable guy came just when he said he would, and he was very nice.

In terms of the people who work for Comcast, I have nothing but nice things to say. The few times we've had some problems with the signal, I've called Comcast and spoken to real, live people, who talked me through the problems. So far, so good.

My only complaint about Comcast is the fact that they're less than truthful when advertising their HD programming. First off, it's expensive to get HD service. On top of that, there is almost no HD programming, except stuff that's pay-per-view. Sure, there are some great nature programs, but we watched them all during the first week of having an HD television. The other free stuff offered in HD is lame: stuff like San Francisco's KRON 4 - the low budget, all news station. Wow - I really need to see some anchorman in high def! When it comes to the sort of movies that HD was made for...movies such as 300....we've had to pay additional money to see them on demand.

I guess the combination of courteous, timely customer service and lousy HD programming average out to a C. Not great, not awful. Average.

True and dish companies are the same way it seems. They say you get more channels but who needs 99 music channels! I would suspect they do the same as cable companies with HD as well . ;)

I guess any earthquake is a big earthquake, if you're not used to them. When I lived in Wellington, NZ, we once had 13 earthquakes int he span of a month. It got so that we started feeling funny if a few days went by without a tremor.

Yah, I totally agree. If there had been competition, our bills would have never made it up as high as they have. Competition is the only thing that is making food costs still affordable at all for most us. Just imagine what life would be like in the United States if there was only one outfit to buy FOOD from! How are you doing today? I'm sitting here reading about this big deal earthquake we supposedly experienced here in Illinois. I don't know, I was awake when it "happened" and I just thought a freight train was going by!

It's hard to believe some of us grew up with no cable tv, only a few local channels and networks, no VCR or technology, and televisions we had to stand up and walk to if we wanted to change the channel. Back then, it never felt as if there was any shortage of decent programming. Maybe I'm just spoiled! lol

I feel like more competition would make for better programming or at least lower prices. Where I live, Comcast is the only viable option.

Seriously. Cable tv is one of America's great business scams. Like I said, the service guys have been very nice, but the programming is nothing to write home about. And it's expensive!

They get to say there are "hundreds of HD channels" because stuff like my local news channel, and the channel that shows reruns of Friends day and night are in HD. But really, people like me get HD to enjoy big, sprawling, visually intensive movies...not because we think the Tonight Show would be so much better if only it were in high def.

Ain't it amazing!! Subscribe to those "200 channels" packages and once you eliminate the "radio" channels, shopping channels, PPV previews, and similar noise, you're left with "nothing worth watching". Fortunately, you can still rent a DVD from Blockbuster or Netflix....

Hi, Telpher! I was gone for most of the day, just got on a few minutes ago. I have mixed feelings about Comcast too.

Your quotes really says it all but you make several good points in this review as well:)

I would think HD would be used more since the HD tv's have been around for a while. Perhaps it will be someday soon but I will hold off until they get more programs in HD. ;)
