I know from experience that it is often difficult to figure out which toothbrush to buy when you are looking at all of the seemingly similar toothbrushes offered in a generic drugstore aisle. But all toothbrushes are not created equal. With that said, I actually really like Colgate's The Wave Toothbrush. Here's why. For starters, the toothbrush comes recommended by my dentist. Its sleek head, soft bristles, and ergonomic/comfy handle make brushing your teeth an efficient and pleasant experience. Its long and sleek head allow the soft bristles to get to the hard to reach areas in the back of your mouth easily (i.e., without discomfort). Its rubber handle is slightly larger than the head, which makes it easy to grip. And this line of toothbrushes also comes in a variety of attractive shades. For instance, mine is a lovely pinkish purple. (It is a color I have yet t have and that is impressive since I make it a point to get a different color/kind of toothbrush every time I replace one!) Try it, you'll love it.

If **Colgate** wants to name a toothbrush, so be it.  My opinion, however, is that naming a toothbrush is pretentious.  So... that toothbrush better be darn good to overcome its PR pretense.

Welcome to **"The Wave" **by Colgate!

For nearly double the price of more humble toothbrushes you'll get this model with a rounded end, polished bristles, small head, curved handle and a brush pattern with a curious (unexplained) dip in the middle that makes me think it might work better on a vampire's fangs than on my little pearlies.

I am sitting here surrounded by my soft-bristled toothbrushes: 1) **The Wave**, 2) the *Plaksmacker** (my all-time favorite so far, and 3) my unnamed, but reliable buddy from *Oral-B*.

Hmmm.  All have rounded ends, but **The Wave**'s is less-rounded with a more angular head shape in general.  Hard to speak to the "polished bristles", but **The Wave** looks more shiny-plasticky and is far more rigid in my mouth even after useage and many thumb-bends under hot water.  The heads of all the brushes are small.

The differences?  Only **The Wave** has the surprising dip in the bristles' middle (deeper than shown in photo).  Is that what **Colgate** means by "curved bristles"?  The other brushes' bristles are level.

Finally!  The handle.  "The curved handle puts the power to brush better in your hands."  In my wet, toothpastey hands, this cursed round, as well as curved, handle moves around in my hands to the extent that I don't always know where the head is.  Oops!  Accidentally brushed my front teeth with the brush's backside.  Though there is a narrow, curvy grip, I tend not to feel it.  The grips in the *Plaksmacker *and the *Oral-B* are far more substantial.  Of course their handles are not round or highly-styled and... well... by comparison, they look kind of horsey.

Has high-styling addled our brains?  This wouldn't be the first (or the last) time.  Reviewers on two other sites *loved* this brush.  One even said she couldn't live without it!  (Yeeks!)  Another was only mildly dismayed that her **Wave** wore out in a month.  (Most dentists and hygienists recommend starting with a new brush every three months or so.)

*Caveat emptor*.

My favorite toothbrush

By

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

I love the Colgate "The Wave" toothbrush. It is definitely my favorite toothbrush. I'm really picky about toothbrushes for some reason, and I really love to feel like the brush has done an excellent job cleaning my teeth.

The Wave toothbrush has a unique shape to it's bristles, which makes it perfect for getting to those hard to reach cracks and crevices.

The bristles themselves are the perfect height, thickness, and stiffness. The dip in the middle of the head of the brush really helps to clean all of my mouth.

I think the design is pretty nice too. It's fun to add a little pop of color wherever you can, so why not on your toothbrush?

I will say, however, it is a bit more expensive than the typical toothbrush runs, but I think you get your money's worth. I buy the toothbrush in a two pack, and that cuts down a smidge on the price per brush.

Overall, a nice quality toothbrush that gets the job done right.

Cheap Price, Unsatisfactory Results

By

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

I like to replace my toothbrush about every six weeks or so. While shopping for my new toothbrush, I noticed that the Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush was on sale, so I decided that I would give it a try. The first time that I used the toothbrush, I found the bristles to be very hard. The toothbrush was easy to hold and maneuver around and did reach spots on my teeth that others couldn't. However, I don't feel as thought the Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush is any better than other disposable toothbrushes. The toothbrush seems to hold onto the water left behind after rinsing, which makes me think about any bacteria that is being left behind from the water. For the price, this toothbrush is a good bargain, but I will not be using it again. I feel as though it didn't give me the great cleaning results that it claims. I would not purchase this product again and would definitely not recommend it to anyone else.

"The Wave" wears out way too quickly.

By

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

I bought Colgate's "The Wave" Toothbrush as a fill in for my normal toothbrush, when the store was out of my stock on mine. It did not cost too much and I had planned on purchasing my regular toothbrush as soon as it was available. I ended up using this toothbrush for about two months and I really did not like it. I had to buy the soft bristled toothbrush and I really felt as though the toothbrush was not getting my teeth as clean as it should have. I always felt I had to brush longer and harder or my mouth did not feel clean. Often, after rinsing, I would go back and brush again because I still felt food or other debris between my teeth. Also, this toothbrush actually completely wore out after two months of use. I do not brush my teeth hard nor do I normally brush my teeth an excessive amount. I can only guess that this toothbrush wore out so quickly because I brushed more due to my mouth not feeling clean. Even if that were the case, the brush should not have worn out in only TWO months! I would not recommend using this toothbrush at all!

Cute but Costly

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

Colgate had me at purple. I bought this toothbrush because I absolutely love purple. The design caught my eye as well. While I do like The Wave, I feel that it's not that unique when compared to many other less expensive toothbrushes.
The wavey, contoured handle is able to access some of the harder to reach spots in my mouth. The bristles are great for getting in the cracks and spaces between my teeth. The ergonomically designed handle doesn't slip out of my hand and is easy to maneuver.
Unlike a lot of other straight handled toothbrushes, I do feel like this one gets my teeth really clean. But again, there are other, less expensive brands that have a contoured handle just like this one.
While I do like the way that this brush performs, my biggest complaint is that it is too expensive for what it offers. But I really do love the purple color and comfortable grip of the handle.

I don't like this toothbrush

By

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

When considering things I think are important in a toothbrush, I look for brushes that have soft bristles and bristles of varying lengths for good access between teeth and good gum massaging capabilities. This toothbrush doesn't have any of the above--I found the bristles to be somewhat stiff (which can be a major contributor to gum recession and tooth sensitivity), and they just didn't seem to reach the spaces between my teeth or just under my gums. The bristles don't have a lot of give and are so densely packed that they don't easily displace and conform to the shape of the various surfaces of your teeth. The handle is somewhat ergonomic and contoured in a way that fits nicely in your hand, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the brush head isn't an effective cleaning implement. I recommend looking into one of the Oral B models or a good electric toothbrush.

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

I received this toothbrush from my dentist at my checkup. I love it. I love the way it feels in my hand. There is something about the wave to it that it seems to clean my teeth well. I use it to dry brush before I use my electric toothbrush to remove plaque from my teeth.

Best toothbrush on market

By

from USA

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

The best toothbrush on the market! I received a free sample toothbrush from my dentist back sometime ago , I now replace my toothbrush at least 3 times a year. This toothbrush bristles are just right, not too soft or too hard. The toothbrush handle is just right in shape of head,is not too large so as to be uncomfortable in using. The toothbrush handle is the correct size for a good grip without being bulky or too small. I always put toothbrushes in my grand children's Christmas stockings as stuffers. I always keep extras in medicine cabinet for overnight guests. This toothbrush cleans teeth better with less abrasions than other toothbrushes I have used. Dental exams since using this toothbrush have proven that this a good toothbrush. My dentist recommending this toothbrush is enough of a sales pitch for me. I have been a satisfied customer for about a year and a half.

Colgate's wave fits the hand and is easy to hold

By

from Peoria, AZ

Comments about Colgate "The Wave" Toothbrush:

The wave in this toothbrush makes it ideal for children to be able to hold and it gives them more control when brushing their teeth. The brushes are available in lots of bight cheerful colors. The brush itself does a better job of cleaning around my many caps. This brush is soft enough to be flexible but firm enough to clean around the caps. They are very reasonable so it’s a good idea to stock up and have clean replacements for everyone. I did find that these brushes are just a little larger than others that I have used and they do not fit in my cosmetic bag for traveling and do not fit in my toothbrush holder. If space is a issue on your countertop or the “wave” won’t fit in your holder, I would suggest you choose a different brush. .
