I have owned several crock pots / slow cookers over the years and at first I didn't trust them enough to leave them on all day when I would be out of the house. Eventually I took the plunge and started branching out with what I would make in them and the temperatures that I would use. The longer you can cook something at a lower temperature the better taste you are going to get. It goes without saying that if you are in to tailgating you are going want to have at least one of them for chili or to keep nacho sauce heated to the point that it stay in a liquid state. This is a good size for a small to medium family but this isn't a commercial unit so using it outside the house for tailgating you are going to want to make sure that you are using an industrial cord and that there's no chance of someone tripping over the cord or power strip. This has a serving stand so its no something that I'd recommend for tailgating because it's just way too easy for someone to end up yanking or pulling on the cord. It's easy to clean so if you are making something that you plan on cooking all day you aren't going to have to scrape things out of it when it comes time to clean it out. the outside doesn't get super hot but you know when it is on; if you are going to be cooking things over night be well aware that the lid is not a completely secure fit so every room in the house will be filled with the aroma which could lead to some late night / early morning snacking.
