Sometimes the bugs get so bad, you can't stand to be outside because they are in your eyes, up your nose and climbing into your ears. In those cases, it pays to get yourself one the Mosquito Head Nets from Coghlans.

These mosquito nets fits completely over your head, even with a hat on and provides about as much protection as you can get from the majority of biting insects. It's not always the most comfortable thing to wear, especially in hotter weather, but it does work and it keeps those darn bugs from getting into your ears, nose and mouth. Think of the head net as a bunch of bug netting with an elastic collar that fits over your head and the elastic pulls tight around the collar of your shirt. There's enough play to fit loosely over your head, even with a hat on, but it can cling to your skin, so some people might find it a bit tight

I find these mosquito nets come in handy whenever you're out hiking in the spring or the early summer when the blackflies and/or mosquitoes are out in force. I almost always wear a baseball cap when I wear this netting. The bill of the hat keeps the netting away from your face so that it isn't resting on your nose or bothering your eyes. I've had a couple of different Mosquito Head Nets for a while and they have survived pretty regular use over the years. The head nets aren't perfect, especially if you aren't wearing a collared shirt, in those cases, the bugs can work around your neck a bit and sometimes get inside the head net and up to your face.

My Take

If you're hiking anywhere with a bad bug problem, you should have one of these Mosquito Head Nets on your head. They aren't perfect, but they work.
