Cobra - Slip on Slash Cut Exhaust Pipes —

A good addition to any vehicle are those that allow the engine to work more efficiently. You can do two things to accomplish this, one is to allow it to breathe better by getting a free flow air cleaner. The other is to allow the engine to expel the exhaust in a more efficient manner than they give you at the factory. While allowing the exhaust gases to exit easier a new set of pipes can also give a motorcycle a beefier sound to let people know you're there and that is a safety aspect I like!

Another great thing about adding these new Cobra pipes is that I now have more clearance to add a larger saddlebag for those long trips I plan on taking with Lil' Blue this summer! That way I can take some goodies to give my Grandbabies when I go visit them in July!

Cobra Slip on, Slash cut exhaust pipes

When I bought Lil' Blue (2008 V Star Classic) she had plenty of chrome to please the eyes and the stock pipes looked good but were rather quiet and quiet is not what I wanted. So I ordered a set of Cobra Slip on exhaust pipes with the slash cut ends to dress her up a bit. As with any modification from stock on the exhaust or air intake system you must adjust the carburetors so everything works at its peak efficiency. So I also ordered the Re-Jet kit for my V Star.

I had the dealer install both my pipes and re-jet kit so it would be done according to specifications set by the maker of the pipes and Yamaha as well. This way I protected my warranty on the pipes and Lil' Blue. I dropped my bike off on a Wednesday for them to install my goodies and also have my first service done. My Lil' Blue was ready and waiting for me by noon the next day and I rushed up there to pick her up.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the new pipes looked and even more pleased at how she sounded. Very close to a Harley in sound except it doesn't have that lopping idle like a Harley. I would say Lil' Blue is now about 5 times louder than the stock pipes but my friends that is not the only improvement.

In this day of escalating gas prices we all need to be more fuel efficient and I have achieved that with my new pipes. I was getting a very impressive 47.5 mpg with Lil' Blue in her stock form. I now get 51.5 mpg and the throttle response is amazing and I would say it improved 50% over what it was in factory trim. Who wouldn't love an increase of just over 8% on their gas mileage??? I know I am loving it and it should get a little better once Lil' Blue is broke in all the way, which should be around 1,000 miles on the engine and I am over 1/2 way there.

Bottom Line

I love the look and sound of my new Cobra Slip on pipes and the neighbors know when I fire up Lil' Blue for a ride. Even more important is I now have people noticing me going down the road and that means I am being SEEN and HEARD and that my friends makes me feel a lot Safer!

So I accomplished a few different goals by adding these Cobra Slip On Pipes...I am now heard, then seen by others on the road....I got some Snazzy Chrome that looks great on Lil' Blue......and last but certainly not least I improved the performance and I am getting even better gas mileage. I call it a Win/Win Situation all the way around!
