I don't make many long distance calls - - - maybe a couple per year. So I hate how most of the long distance companies will charge you a minimum $5 per month, no matter what.

Then on the DrudgeReport.com was a link to CoVista. It was a long distance company that had no minimum per month charge, and you didn't have to dial a bunch of extra number to access their service. You just gave them the phone number you would be calling FROM, and then dial the 1 plus the 10 digit phone number. Great connection. No problems.

UNTIL they changed something in their billing system, and all of a sudden, they couldn't figure out how to automatically debit my checking account. So I got hit with a $15 surcharge on the CoVista webpage. I didn't know about the problem until a few days later when I looked at my bank account online to see how much last month's long distance call cost me, and there were NO charges. So I called them, was told about the changes THEY were going through, and gave them my bank account routing number again. However, in the meantime, they socked my web account again - - another $15! Plus, they ran my web account again the next day - - - ANOTHER $15!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called them again, this time furious. They were kind on the phone, but said basically - - "oh well!" They told me I could not make any calls until this was resolved, so I gave them my credit card number. THAT charge they were able to run!!! $45 in "bounce fees" plus $3 for my prior month's long distance. So I cancelled the account.

I had recommended this service to a friend, and she's used it without any problems.

Now, I use my cell phone for long distance!
