Most HelpfulLast year when I saw the trailers for the movie Cloverfield I thought it looked great and could not wait to see it. Then I started reading negative reviews and hearing that the shaky camera work was actually making people sick so I started to feel like I wouldn't like it much.
But last week I was...

Most HelpfulA going away party for Rob is being video taped and documented by his friend Hudd. After having some fun at the party, an ‘earthquake' ripped through Manhattan and an oil tanker capsized in the river. The chaos increases as we follow this group of friends try to survive the monster that has...
review »I have been wanting to see this movie since it was advertised as an Untitled Project before Transformers in summer 2007. The ad only showed a few details and I will not share anything more! I do not want to ruin it for you.
Just a little bit about the plot...
The movie starts by saying a few lines on the screen about "this tape was recovered in Central Park" and that is about it. At the start we see Rob Hawkins in New York playing with his video camera and documenting a date. This goes for a few minutes before this is cut off and replaced with Jason and Lily now playing with the camera. ...
Bottom-Line: Slow out of the gate, when the action starts Cloverfield delivers an engaging human film that makes the monster a bit player at its own coming out party.
Robert Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is going to Japan to work, so his future sister-in-law Lily (Jessica Lucas) and his brother Jason (Mike Vogel) are throwing him a party in their lower East side Manhattan apartment.
Robert is afraid to commit, or admit that he has strong feelings beyond friendship for Elisabeth McIntyre (Odette Yustman) whom he recently slept with but didn't call afterwards; big mistake dude. She shows up at...
review »The premise is that the film was discovered in Central Park, after the event, and is now being viewed in the government archives. Friends throw a going away party for Rob, who's leaving for Japan to take a big new job. During the party, something goes boom. Their high-rise shakes. The lights flicker. It takes awhile...
review »I didn't have the time to make it to the theatre to see this on the big screen, and I was really anticipating the DVD release. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! I WANT THAT HOUR AND A HALF BACK IN MY LIFE!!! I haven't felt this let down in a movie in quite a few years. There was really no suspense, nothing scary...I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. I thought the scene in the subway with the little monsters was okay, but what happened to the girl? I was so disappointed, I thought that the extras would be interesting, but I had lost all patience with the flick by that point, I...
review »Fans of "The Blair Witch Project" will be happy to know the cameraman has found work again. As facetious as that sounds, the unique gimmick of Cloverfield is that the entire thing is filmed from the point of view of a handheld video camera that the characters are carrying around. This means that there are a LOT of scenes where the screen is jumping all over the place due to the characters running/falling/dodging/etc. It made my wife seasick, and I noticed another couple leave shortly after the film started for the same reason.
That being said, while the movie has a slow start, once the action...
review »Cloverfield took the movie industry to a whole new level. This movie shocked me. I sat on the edge of the couch throughout the entire movie. I honestly rented the movie three times. I rushed out and bought it. I am not a fan of these types of movies. I had to watch Godzilla just because that was the writer's inspiration.
Cloverfield rocked!
I was looking forward to this movie for a while. I remember seeing the fist preview for it, way before Transformers came out, and thinking it was a Godzilla movie. Definitely anything but!! I love JJ Abrams and Alias, so I was already coming in with high expectations, not disappointed with Cloverfield.
Without trying to spoil the movie, it was definitely fantastic. I actually enjoyed the choppy, home video feel to it. It just made me feel like I was right there with them, trying to see what they were seeing. Great job! It could have got to the action a bit quicker, because the beginning...
review »I saw Cloverfield mainly because my husband really wanted to, and the trailer looked interesting. Also it got lots of good reviews and it's from the people behind Lost, which I love. I'm normally a real scaredy cat when it comes to monster movies, but even I didn't find this very scary. Not to give too many spoilers, but you barely get to see the monster, and what you see is not all that impressive. Plus, as others have mentioned, there is no explanation as to what it is and how it got to New York. I guess I just like my stories a little more wrapped up with a bow by the end. I hate...
review »Wow! What a waist of time and money! This was one of the worst movies, I have ever watched. I for one hate movies with no endings. This movie, for the most part looked like it could have been filmed by a bunch of frinds just goofing around. I say, if you are going to spend that much money making a movie, make it a good one. I will give it some credit for the actors, I found there rolls to be beliavable and likeable. I felt that this movie missed a lot, like I had started watching it about an hour into the movie and missed the last hour. I don't think this is one I will be adding to my collection....
