Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs —

I woke up this morning and decided it was a good day for a movie.  The movie choosen turned out to be Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.  I loved the book as a child and was curious about the film.  When I got to the movie theater I was shocked to find out it was in 3-D.  I was not thrilled with this concept as I wear glasses and never had luck with those flimsy glasses.  We even paid for the glasses and had to give them back at the end.  What the heck!  Anyways, the glasses turned out to be better and did work although the sides glared because they weren't wrap around.

Plot:  Flint Lockwood is a boy genius who is always coming up with these wild and crazy inventions that usually backfire on him.  One day he makes a machine that can turn water into food.  When the machine gets away from him and flies into the sky, crazy things start falling out of the sky, like hamburgers and ice cream.

What I thought:  There's obviously more added to this movie than the book had in it with it's handful of pages.  I loved Flint Lockwoods character.  He had great charisma, is fun, is crazy (kind of like a crazy scientist), fun loving, has great wild hair, and is relatable.  I didn't focus so much on the storyline than all the foods that were coming out of the sky, as that was my favorite part of the book.  It just wasn't as engaging and fantastic as it should have been.  I love the ice cream scene.  What kid doesn't imagine their favorite foods falling out of the sky?  It does have some moral lessons in it that you can pick out and discuss with your children.  I was laughing at some great parts in it but I don't think other people were.  I'm not sure if the kids were to enthusiastic about Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs but seemed more impressed by the 3-D snowflakes in the previews!  Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs could is an okay movie, but I wouldn't waste $8 for a ticket to see it in the theater.  Best to wait for the DVD.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Snack Attack:  Junior Mints or sour straws.
