Clorox Bleach has been around for many decades. It's one of those products you probably have somewhere around the house, and it's probably used in the laundry. But Clorox Bleach has many other uses besides in the laundry.

First off, the laundry is where bleach is used most often. What does it do? Bleach brightens clothes (especially whites) making them look almost new again. I most often use Clorox to brighten up those undies and undershirts. But using too much is detrimental since it leaves behind a slight unpleasant scent and can leaves clothes feeling stiff.

The biggest all-around benefit of Clorox Bleach is just the fact that it kills germs dead. If someone in the home in sick, using bleach in the laundry will prevent the germs from spreading. Here's a list of harmful organisms that Clorox Bleach will kill using 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water:

Bacteria:

Staphylococcus aureus (Staph.) Salmonella choleraesuis Pseudomonas aeruginosa Streptococcus pyogenes (Strep.) Escherichia coli O157:H7 (E. coli) Shigella dysenteriae Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Fungi Trichophyton mentagrophytes (can cause Athlete's Foot) Candida albicans (a yeast)

Viruses:

Rhinovirus Type 37 (a type of virus that can cause colds) Influenza A (Flu virus) Hepatitis A virus Rotavirus Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)* Herpes simplex Type 2 Rubella virus Adenovirus Type 2 Cytomegalovirus

I use the Regular Clorox Bleach around my house. While it is most often sold in large gallon-sized containers, I found it sold in a small 24-ounce container, which is more than enough for me.

The big drawback to bleach is that it is hazardous in several ways. Overexposure to your skin or consuming it can be dangerous to your health. Also mixing bleach with certain household cleaners, like ammonia, can cause a dangerous chemical reaction and there are environmental concerns as well. However, if used properly Clorox Bleach is a valuable household cleaner to have on hand.

My mother used this for everything. Oddly, I can't stomach the scent and can't use it. I can wash clothes with it but otherwise, the scent makes me kind of queasy. Pine Sol does that to me too! Weird.

I have been using some spray that has Clorox Bleach in it but I've never used it straight up:)

I didn't realize that daycares used bleach to disinfect. When I was a kid we groveled in the dirt all day and quickly brushed off our hands before 'snack time' !

I use the scented ones. It is an inexpensive way to clean and disinfect the countertops and children's toys. Mix with water and put in a spray bottle to clean with. Of course you have to be careful it doesn't splash on your clothing. Most daycares use this to save money but it's only good for one day. Have to make fresh each day.

I have never tried the scented Clorox. Maybe they aren't sold in the itty-bitty pint sized bottles I buy?

I love me some Clorox bleach; especially the scented ones.
