I have had anxiety disorder for quite some time. My doctor's tried me on many different medicines but nothing ever really helped. I started to self medicate with cigarettes and was okay. When my Meemaw died of lung cancer (shirley-bellavia.memory-of.com) I quit smoking in her memory. Now, not only was my self-medication gone... but I was dealing with the death of someone VERY close to me... and I was there when she died which made death SO real to me. I was having panic attacks left and right and was miserable to live with.

ALL BETTER

Then my doctor prescribed Klonopin. Klonipin is my new cigarette basically... only I'm not addicted. I use it like an asthmatic uses a rescue inhaler basically. When I'm having a panic attack, I take one. A few minutes later I'm calm. A few minutes after that I'm either asleep or drooling. :) When I say that I'm not addicted I mean... I haven't taken one since June. So for those that take it daily, I can't really vouch for them. As a rescue med it works great. My only complaint is that if I'm having a panic attack when I'm at work or alone with the baby I can't take one because I'll fall asleep.

My viewpoint is that this medicine is great for those of us that have panic attacks semi-frequently (about once a week) and can afford to sleep. I wouldn't recommend it for single mothers or people that are on-call for work (like firefighters). For everyone else I suggest you at least ask your doctor about it.

I have abused xanax for over 25 years now and realized that i would be phobic of not having enough but also phobic of taking too many and dying. I finally looked online and found others who told me that clonazepam doesn't make you feel like you're on a rollercoaster. it just keeps you steadily calm. it's been my life saver and i don't have any urge to overtake. Thank God for this medication. i'm a new woman now.
