Clobetasol Propionate USP 0.05% Clobex, Temovate (US),Olux, Tenovate, Dermovate, Dermatovate, Butavate, Movate —

To the Point

I have had small red spots for as long as I can remember. A dermatologist long ago said it was psoriasis as does my current doctor. For years I have been on Clobetasol propionate and another less potent drug (one day on; one day off). However during this visit to my dermatologist she prescribed only Clobetasol propionate.

A Closer View

I don't understand the science behind it but I can tell you (from wikipedia)  that Clobetasol propionate is "a corticosteroid used to treat various skin disorders including eczema and psoriasis. It comes in ointment and emollient cream presentations. It has very high potency and typically should not be used with occlusive dressings, or for extended continuous use (beyond two weeks). It is also used to treat several auto-immune diseases including alopecia areata, vitiligo and lichen planus (auto immune skin nodules)."

I have an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome. Although the psoriasis came long before the diagnosis we believe that there is a correlation.

Clobetasol propionate is marketed and sold worldwide under numerous names including Clobex, Olux, Tenovate, Dermovate, Dermatovate, Butavate, and Movate.

I have never had adverse reactions but there is a whole host of them including a burning sensation, glaucoma, itching, finger numbness, and Cushing's sydrome. (I do wish I didn't know this!)

Clobetasol propionate ointment is potent which is why initially the doctor wanted me to take it on and off. I only put on a dab in the morning and at night and truthfully within a couple of days it starts to dry and go away.

Clobetasol propionatethe is not a cure and treatment beyond 2 consecutive weeks is not recommended, Children under age 12 shouldn't use it.

Clobetasol propionate is odorless and is a thin white lotion that is gone almost the moment I dab it on.

Hi my name is Tammy and I too have been diagnosed with Psoriasis. I started noticing red dry spot on my arm about a year ago and recently it has spread severely. My dermatologist gave me and ointment about 2 months ago that did nothing for me When I went back this afternoon she prescribed me Clobetasol Propionate. I was not feeling 100% confident since the last ointment did not work but after reading your story I am feeling better about this. I hope I will have the same results as you. She told me to use the ointment Monday - Friday and then to use a cream called Dovonex Saturday and Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing a great result. She has also set up and appointment to have Photo Therapy. Please let me know if you have ever gone Photo Therapy. Thanks for your information and I wish you the best of health. Take care.

Hi my name is Tammy. I was recently diagnosed with psoriasis and I too have red dry dots all over my arms and legs. The Dermatologist prescribed this to me this afternoon after trying another type of ointment that did not work. I hope that I have the same results you do. I work in a restaurant and having this all over my hands and arms is not desirable to people I am serving. My doctor is also sending me for a consultation for photo therapy but that would have to be done 3 times a week so I am hoping that this will work. Thank you for the information. I am feeling so much more confident about this ointment since the last one did not work for me. I wish you continuous health in the future!
