I've felt terrible for 6 weeks, and I'm on a second round of antibiotics. Finally, I figure it out. I'm allergic to pine, and the bathroom remodel is exposing pine beams. That new oak cabinet has a pine lining.
The builder suggests I try some Claritin-D. I call my brother who has allergies and takes something . . . Yes. It's Claratin-D, and he recommends that I give it a try as well.
Well, hallelujah. I do not wake up with my eyes all puffed up and feeling like I've not had any sleep. I do not have to take a nap to make it through the day. And, I'm not near as grumpy as I've been lately with it taking a real effort to put one foot in front of the other.
Claritin used to be perscription. I took it several years back just through a spring season. Now, it is over the counter - but not really - behind the counter but no perscription required. This can be good, since you don't have to go see the doctor, but on the other hand, insurance does not kick in, and it's expensive ($16 for 10 pills here).
The reason Claritin-D is behind the counter is because some people use it to make meth. Geez. Take those cooking and chemistry skills and do something more productive.
In any case, you have to show your driver's license. They scan that or write all the data down. Then you have to sign. This can be on an electronic pad or in a book depending on the size of the pharmacy and how high or low tech they are. You do all this, so they can track how much Claratin you buy.
The limit is 37 tablets per month. This should be fine, since it's once per day. Issues may come up if you travel and so on and can't buy extra. Also, the pills are sold in 5, 10, or 15 tablet boxes. So, you can see that math does not come out to 37 no matter how you add.
There is a limit of 15 Claratin per day at the pharmacy, but you can order online and get 31 at a time. But, again you can't go over the 37 per month. So, you couldn't do 2 online orders in a month and be legal.
I got mine at the CVS. They also have a brand name there with a larger pack. Can't recall how many they said. I wanted to be certain, so I went with Claratin-D. There's regular Claratin which I think is for 12 hr vs. 24 hrs. Since I live in the house with the pine lined cabinets, I didn't want it to wear off in the middle of the night. I've had enough restless sleep over the last few weeks to do me a long while.
I wish I did not need to buy Claratin and wish it did not cost so much, but I'm so thankful to be able to my lungs full of air for a change that it's sure worth it.
