Red Sox Nation calls City of Palms Park "home" in March
Southwest Florida is oh-so-lucky.......the Boston Red Sox come to town each and every spring, and we get to watch their spring training games right here at home, in a beautiful ball park in downtown Fort Myers.
After frying like an egg at the Minnesota Twins spring-training stadium (which is also here), I was doubtful that the architects could pull off a great ball park. Boy, was I wrong. City of Palms is a beautiful ball park, with lots of big overhangs providing crucial shade in the Florida sun. Tropical bouganvilla drape over the open-air passageway inside the park, where everyone gets beer, hot dogs and souvenirs. The whole design is really good, and there's loads of parking all around the park.
Tickets are no Prob
Fans who purchased season tickets back when the Red Sox were not so great sure hit the jackpot. Seats are a little tough to come by now, but Craigslist always has lots, and I've never gone to the park that I couldn't find tickets outside the gate. I have paid $35 for seats that were pretty far beyond 3rd base, but that's the price of having a successful team in town. Or course, all the other teams come into town, too.........so rivalries are alive and well in Fort Myers!
"Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
March is high season, so hotel rooms can be a little tougher to find than baseball tickets. Plan ahead and then grab a flight into RSW or drive to town and enjoy the ballgames!
