I have a love affair with wristwatches. When I was a little kid the best gift I got was a watch, when I was about five. I have loved them ever since.

I own a Breitling, a Tag-Heuer, a Rolex, a couple of different Timexes, a couple of different Seikos and a handful of unique timepieces. One of my favorites is an old "Rock Clock" that has a stone face. Engraved into the face is a silouette of Wile E. Coyote; as if he had smashed into the rock at the bottom of a ravine. I love that one, but I digress.

Recently - while in a jewelry store helping my daughter shop for a purity ring - I saw the Citizen Black Eagle Skyhawk (Jr3155 54e); and I was smitten right away. The store wanted ~$400 for it and I thought I could do better, so I passed, but the fuse was lit.

I shopped all over the Internet and found that while the retail price is ~$500, you can get the metal-bracelet version for ~$280 all day long online.

I set up an EBay watch for this item and watched the auctions dutifully for about six weeks and the patience finally paid off. I saw recently that a private individual was selling one that he had received as a gift, worn for a little bit and then decided to sell. I ended up getting it for $200 plus $13 in shipping.

It arrived the other day and I noticed that it comes with a little CD that you can run on your computer. The CD has a tutorial on it that you interact with while learning to use the watch's features. It took about fifteen minutes to go through the tutorial and I am now fully versed in the operation of this watch. I have owned complex watches before and never got the full use out of them due to the difficulty of learning how to operate them. The tny manuals in combination with esoteric keypress sequences make most complex watches too difficult to fully use on a daily basis.

On a daily basis, I work with people from the UK, India, New Zealand and three different timezones in the US. Within thirty minutes of removing the watch from the box, I had removed the unused timezones from the watch and added in the extra ones that I need. Now at a push of a button, I can see what time it is in New Zealand, Hyderabad India, London, Florida... sweet

If you have a need to keep track of different timezones and never want to replace a watch battery again, Get a Citizen Black Eagle Skyhawk. If you don't like the black stainless steel version, they also make it in the regular old silvery stainless (JR3080-51L) and even offer a titanium version too (JR3060-59F). I have seen the silver stainless version for as little as $225 online and the Titanium one for as low as $275. Google a bit and you will find them pretty quickly. I prefer the black one (Jr3155 54e) because it has a black-ops, US Navy Seal-Team look to it.
