My wife tried to use our Citi Shell MasterCard this AM.  I've been a customer since the Summer of 2007.  I've really enjoyed the 5% rebate, until this AM that is.

Apparently, paying your balance in full each month isn't good enough and we found out at the gas pump that they cancelled the card yesterday.  No letter, no phone call.

We have excellent credit, pay our balances in full each month and WHAM they treat us like this.

I can't imagine how they would treat you if you fell behind.

I guess that's why Citi is struggling and Chase is doing well.  So we'll change our buying habits and use BP instead of Shell.

Whoa! That is crazy! Seems like people who pay the balance in full each month would be the reliable customers, but they want the ones that will string the balance out to pay interest fees, lag behind, pay late fees, over the limit fees, etc....Citi makes more money on those people. They want you reliable to get the card, then they want you to not pay it each month on time.

Yeah, I'm bad because I'd get about $25/month in gasoline purchase rebates, pay no interest, no fees, etc.  I even used the card enough to avoid an annual fee.

Well, I still have my Chase BP card for 5% rebates on gas.  It's not as easy as you have to cash those in for BP gift cards.  The Citi card would automatically credit to my account.

I'm cool with them wanting to make money.  I really don't have too much issue with that.  It's the no warning, find out when you are at the pump that the card is shut off that burnt my toast.

Send me a letter or call me.

Discover called me when there was suspected fraud.  I had a new card with a new account number in 24-48 hours.

That's the way to do business, not the way Citi did me here.

Makes no sense.  We had a problem with Home Depot.  We have always paid our bill on time, not comepetley off but it doesn't have a whole lot on it either.  We had our credit line reduced.  Well guess what?  We are fixing to remodel our house in LA and we will be buying from Lowes and Stine.  I paid off Home Depot and included a letter telling them we no longer needed their services.

Wow I am shocked. We too use the Shell card. I'll have to be on top of what happens to us.

Same problem with Citi-Shell MC. Used for almost 2 years-no problems. Found out at the pump today that it is no longer valid. Called customer service on my cell from the parking lot. They say it is closed. No letter or e-mail. My online access still shows active with credit available. Guess what 2 companies will be losing my business?!!!

I've NEVER had a problem with my Citi-Shell card.  I love the 5% gas rebates and they've never screwed us around.  I just used my card yesterday, and I've had it for about 5 years now.   We pay it off every month and in that time, we've gotten over $500 dollars in gas rebates.

Citi Shell is LOSING $$ with people like me having their card.  If that ever changes, I'll be very vocal about it.

After cancelling my card, Citi called me today and wanted to re-instate the card.  So I'm cautiously optomistic.  We'll see where this goes.

Be sure to check the interest rate they are offering.

Don't really care, I pay the balance in full each month.  But they did say the same terms when they called.
