easy and convenient

I have had my Citi Platinum Select Master Card for about 10 years now and it has been great. It is easy and convenient to bring with you everywhere and simpler than carrying around cash everywhere for everyday or big purchases. They offer a good interest rate depending on your credit score and ratings from other companies, but I have been satisfied with what they have offered me. I have had no problems or complications with my card over the years and nothing strange has ever showed up on my card as far as purchases or anything. Citi has a good reputation and they have been able to uphold that as far as I am concerned with their credit cards as well. Customer Service I have not needed to contact customer service for any reason as of this moment. I am sure they are helpful, attentive and knowledgeable in their services when need be. Available Rates Rates I am sure, depend on your credit scores and ratings and vary greatly from client to client.

Citi cancelled my card after an innternal error.

I use billpay and the payment had cleared my account and citi said that they got it days later. I tried faxing proof but citi kept giving me the wrong fax numbers. Two weeks later they increased my intrest rates and two weeks after that they closed the card. I had this card for six years and had never been late.

If you don't run into any problems, I suppose Citi is fine...

I've had a credit card account through Citibank for going on eight years now. The rewards programs are weak compared to other companies. They look nice at first, but come with so many restrictions and limitations that you really don't acquire much. I have a different rewards card through another company that I use much more often because of that. They also have high APR. I am a customer in good standing with solid credit. My APR on my other cards is 4% lower than my CitiCard. My card is paid off so it doesn't matter too much to me, but it is frustrating when I have requested to have the APR lowered once every other month and they claim that's the lowest anyones APR can be. I wouldn't have a problem with it as much if they didn't lie as their answer to my question. I've also run into a few problems with this company's customer service. I've requested five times to be taken off the mailing list for Special Offers. Something about receiving balance transfer checks in the mail makes me uncomfortable and since I will never use them, I figure I don't need to receive them. When speaking with Citicards about this concern, I was told the mailngs would stop in 30 days. 31 days later, I received another balance transfer and spoke with them again about removing my name. Same conversation happened and this time two weeks later I received two balance transfer offers in the same day. I'm STILL trying to have them stop mailing me these things. The card itself is accepted everywhere because it's Mastercard, which is nice. However, I believe there are better companies to do your banking and credit card business through who will provide you with better rewards and serve the community better as well. Then again, to each their own.

Citi Credit Cards poor customer service

1

I've had a Citi card since 1990.  Throughtout the years the company had upped my credit limit and card without me asking.  I've been religious about paying the card off on time each month, even though I charge a signficant amount on it.  Recently Citi announced that they're raising my rate from 15% to 29.99%.  Even though I pay the card off each month, I feel that interest rate is highway robbery.  It's absolutely crazy that they can legally charge 30% interest.  When I called them to close out my card they made it obvious that they really didn't want my business anymore.  I understand that they have to make money, but you'd think they would want to keep a loyal customer.  But now I've gone to a card with essentially the same benefits - no annual fee, reward points, etc - but with a 9.99% interest rate.  And even though I don't carry a balance, it's nice to know that I could if I had an emergency and I wouldn't be paying 30% interest.

Master Card will take you where you want to go

We have travel to Europe, within the United States and within Florida and we never go anywhere without our Master Card.  We also shop when we go on trips and I like to use my Master Card for the purchases because of the protection it gives us if our purchase are stolen.  We use the milage we have accumulated to travel business class when we  fly to our location.  That is always the greatest.  My husband uses his for business so he will not have to carry a lot of money with him and we have a record of what he has spent.  We have our picture on our card which helps theft.  We pay our balance of every month so we are not concerned with interest. AMaster Card is so convenient and is our choice of cards

Don't get the Citi master card

One month I spent less on my credit card than what it showed I had available to spend and when I got my statement there was an overlimit fee.   With their monthly charges it took me over the limit and I was charged for it.   I called them to complain, because I hadn't gone over the limit with my spending and was told that it didn't matter if it was them or me who caused the overlimit I would be charged the fee. Also, they had a great interest rate for the longest time and now they have the worst interest rate of my credit cards.

Consistently reliable service and protection

I've been a customer for over ten years.  I've been through a bunch of different cards (always on the lookout for the most cash back, bonuses, and 0% balance transfer arbitrage), but this is my card of choice.  Even though it no longer offers 5% (max 2%), it's still my daily driver. In all these years, Citi has never attempted to screw me over, cheat me out of the cash back, or fiddle with my payments (I have one Citi card that carries for-the-life-of-the-balance balance at an obscenely low rate - it would make sense for them to try to make a "mistake" in crediting payments to kick me out of this unprofitable enterprise, but they haven't, unlike some other cards ... I'm looking at you, Discover!!!). Even if there are not enough funds in my bank account on the day of the payment, Citi will try to withdraw the next business day and hasn't charged me late fees for that. They keep an eye out for suspicious purchases and freeze the account, but will quickly unfreeze it with a phone call, and that's happened only when I really did have very unusual activity, so it's never been a bother. Lastly, I've had a number of questionable debits / mistaken debits, and Citi seriously stood up for me and never failed to get the money back.  I feel really safe and protected with them.

Reasonably good card

My Citicards card pays cash back.  It's a decent card. The negatives is that you have to reach a threshold before you can request cash back.  They alsogive only 3% back for gas purchases versus 5% for the Discover open road card. If there is a problem, they resolve it reasonably, not like Chase (who didn't give me a statement and also did not alert me even though I signed up and then charged me nearly $100 in fees). The card looks ok even though this is a minor point. The card is a Master Card, not a Visa.  In a few countries, one is more common than the others so it's good to have both types of cards. The international exchange rate is not so good but almost all cards are the same, except Capitol One or some other name, which I don't recall. Citibank's stock price is in the pits so they may try to start abusive fees to earn money.  However, that's not the case yet.  President Obama gave them a lot of money so bankruptcy is unlike.y.

The low maintenance guy's card

My Citi Platinum Select card is my first and only credit card. I am a guy who doesn't like to spend more than I have, so if you want a review about how the interest rates are great, you are looking at the wrong review. If you are person who spends money responsibly and pays all their credit card bills on time, this is your review. The basic perks of this credit card are that you get sweet online management of your Citi credit card at the CitiCard website, the 1% rewards program, no annual fees, and virtual account numbers for online purchases. The online management of your credit card through the CitiCard website is very useful to balance your checkbook with.the credit card balance. There is a caveat that purchases made on the credit card may take 4-5 days to appear in the balance sheet even though the credit line is immediately deducted right after a purchase is made. The 1% rewards program is typical of no annual fees, starter credit cards like this one. You need a minimum of $50 in reward dollars ($5000 of purchases) before Citi will cut you a check for the reward points. The virtual account numbers is very useful for people who shop online at less than well-known online retailers. With virtual account numbers, you can just give these online retailers a randomly generated credit card number that is linked to your credit card for one purchase only. The number is invalid after one purchase is made with it, meaning that if the online retailer was less than honest, you would have little to worry about.
