Good for what it is

When I got this card, they had a very nice incentive program where I would earn 5% cash back on all my purcahses for the first 3 months.  Sounds pretty good right?  After that, it dropped down to just 1% cash back which is actually pretty standard.  At every $50+ threshold, Citi issues you a check within about 2 weeks.  It would be nice if I got to choose when I got my cash back (even if I had to reach a certain limit to be eligible to get it), but that's about my only real complaint.  Citi always notifies me when they see an unusual charge stream, which is also nice (better to be safe than sorry).  I can also check my balance and make payments online; I've completely eliminated the paper billing processes. As far as the previous reviewer and their complaint about the rising interest rate, to be honest I don't pay attention to such things because I ALWAYS pay off my credit card balance at the end of the month.  Today, you could probably find a better card than this since 1% cash back is pretty standard, but this card is good for what I need to do with it.

The CitiCashReturns card is not what it seems to be.

Citibank sent me the CitiCashReturns card in lieu of the Upromise card that Citi had been sponsoring.  I was very excited that Citi continued to offer me the great rate that I had been receiving through the Upromise card, and now I had the opportunity to earn some cash back! I used the card for various purchases, including vacation, entertainment and the like.  I did earn some cash back, but you had to have a minimum of $50.00 in your cash back account to receive the money back.  I really liked that I could access my account online and I had autopay set up so that I did not miss any payments.  The late fee is $39.00, so I certainly did not want to miss any payments!!  When my purse was stolen, Citi was very easy to deal with and immediately issued me a new card.  The one thing I did not like was that I was no longer able to access my original statements online when my original account was closed because of my purse being stolen.  Since I opted in to the paperless statements and did not print them off, I had no record of my statements once my original account was closed.  Citi's customer service department was always courteous when I spoke with them on the phone. Unfortunately, Citi decided a few months ago that they would raise my rate from under 10% to 29.99%, even though I was a good client.  I did not pay late, nor did I go over my limit, so I was a little confused as to why they would raise my rate.  I spoke to 3 different people (including supervisors) about the situation, and no one was able to keep my rate the same.  I had no choice but to close my account to keep the rate at under 10%.  Unfortunately, that meant that I could not access the $20+ in cash "rewards" I had earned, since I did not get to the $50.00 threshold. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in the way the CitiCashReturns card turned out.  I would have liked to continue my relationship with Citi via the card, but my budget wouldn't allow it.
