I happened upon this CD completely by accident.  I enjoy music, but I don't tend to seek it out or surround myself with CDs.  However, if I happen to hear something that catches my attention, I will make a concerted effort to find out the name of the artist.

My stepdaughter was playing music one day, and most of her selections were generally uninteresting to me.  Then, she popped in a CD that was so full of energy, soulfulness, and appeal that I stopped what I was doing, enchanted by the fresh sound.  Turns out, the artist that caught my attention is Chrisette Michele, and her CD entitled, I Am, is now playing repeatedly on my computer.

From the very first lines of the very first song, I was impressed with her unique sound.  So much of music today sounds so very similar, but this young lady has a styling that is all her own.  It's reminiscent of a jazzy, bluesy, soulful vibe, but it also has elements of hip hop to keep it updated and fresh.  Her voice is so distinctive and her energy so contagious, that I find myself unconsciously smiling as she brings her songs to life.

I actually enjoy every song on the CD (which is quite rare for me), but I think my favorites are the melancholy ballad, "My Joy;" the mournful epic, "Golden;" and the rollicking joint, "Good Girl."  Each song is different, but they all flow so well together.  I'm thoroughly enjoying spending time with Chrisette Michele and I Am so glad I happened upon her music.

I would recommend this as background music while spending time online, or as something pleasant and fun to listen to while you're stuck in traffic.
