into movies that tell a great story, married, looking for something different

I remember when Chocolat was in movie theaters and I avoided it for obscure reasons. I vaguely thought that it would be in a foreign language with English subtitles and maybe that the film would be too "arty" for my taste. Boy, was I wrong -- this is a fun, beautiful and very accessible film, and it's completely in English. I strongly recommend Chocolat. — The film is delightfully quirky. The story is about an attractive woman in 1959 who comes to a small conservative town in France with her young daughter. She rents a dilapidated storefront and apartment, and opens up a magical… read full review »

a fan of clever plots, a character lover, into movies that tell a great story

Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp play in this deliciously magnificent movie. — After moving to a small, quiet French town, Vianne (Binoche) opens a fine cholaterie store.  With the incredible desserts being made, she gathers a crowd both intrigued and disgusted by what is going on in the small shop.  Soon, even the most straight laced residents forget themselves and indulge in the exotic treats. — When a stranger (Depp) arrives in town, he helps Vianne realize what she needs; much like the chocolate nurtures the spirits of the town folk. — This is a great,… read full review »

This one is charming and whimsical in the best ways.  It's perhaps a bit TOO sweet, but I didn't mind that since the characters, the situations, the sub-plots and the pace of the film seemed to be almost faultless.  — Chocolat is also about the conflict between paganism (new age) and conservative Christianity.  — Vianne (Juliette Binoche) opens a chocolate shop in a tranquil (dull) French village and slowly everything changes. — The town is completely controlled by Comte De Reynaud (Alfred Molina) who is very rich and whose wife is missing… read full review »

This movie is simply delightful. Even though the story doesn't revolve around Johnny Depp, when he makes his appereance he definitely shows why he is where he is as an actor. On the other hand, Juliet Binoche was brilliant too. I have to admit tht I haven't read the book so I don't know how much the movies sticks to the original story but aside from that it's movie worth watching for sure. The thing that I liked the most about this movie was the acting. I still watch it once in a while specially during winter . I love… read full review »

a movie buff, into movies that tell a great story

I got this movie because Johnny Depp was in it. I spent the first half hour trying to figure out which guy was him. He is such a character actor that I thought he was in disguise. In the meantime, the scenery was lovely, the acting was spectacular and the chocolate looked delicious, Than Johnny Depp arrived on the scene and the movie got even sweeter. It was a lovely film which taught the viewer about love, predjudice and more without being preachy. I enjoyed it and have bought it now for my collection.… read full review »

This movie show's how strong passion can be. As well as  that with a little chocolate any thing can happen. It shows that even a religious people need to take risk and try the unknown and that it is not a sin to enjoy the life you have and to fall in love. this movie had it all the romance, the comedy, the controversy, and a strong female lead, and the gorgeous Man that sweep's her off her feet. It is a move that any movie lover has to see.… read full review »

JOHNNY DEPP CAN PLAY SO MANY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS. HE IS SUCH A GOOD ACTOR. THEY DIDNT SHOW ENOUGH OF HIM. I LIKED THE STORY LINE ABOUT THE CHOCOLATIER AND THEY MADE HER OUT TO BE AN OUTSACT. NOT GOOD BUT SHE OVERCAME THAT AND KNEW JUST WHAT TO DO. SHE RAN AWAY TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE BUT DECIDED THIS PLACE AND TIME WAS HER… read full review »
