We have had some really weird weather this summer, but especially this past month with swings from the upper 90s to the low 70s during the daytime to downright cold (to me) at night. This, along with a bit of public speaking, was enough for me to wake up with a scratchy throat on more than one occasion and I know when that happens laryngitis isn't far behind. I had more speaking ahead and I needed some relief - fast! I had a coupon for Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges and figured now was the time to try them.

Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges come in a box of 18. The honey lemon flavor I picked up is a yellow-gold color with small green flecks inside. Don't let the flecks throw you - according to the package they are "cooling crystals". Menthol and cherry flavors are also available.  It should be noted that the lozenges contain Benzocaine which is an oral anesthetic. Do not use this product if you have an allergy to any 'caine' anesthetics.

As mentioned, I tried the honey lemon flavor. The flavor was mild and pleasant without being over-powering.  I didn't worry that I was walking around knocking people over with my medicine breath.  Best of all - they worked! My throat immediately felt soothed and cooled and my voice no longer sounded like a croaking frog.  I found that the effects of one lozenge lasted me about 2 hours...longer if I could keep quiet.

Cost and Availability
I paid $3.89 for a box of 18 lozenges, readily available at grocery stores and pharmacies.

The Bottom Line
Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lozenges soothed my throat and saved the day!

While these throat lozenges do work as stated, if you use your voice to make a living beware of these. As a singer, I avoid any throat lozenge that contains menthol, which is a drying agent that can overdry the vocal folds and cause more irritation, or any type of oral anisthetic that will mask the symptoms and allow you to overuse your voice and cause potential damage to the vocal chords. Please use caution if you make a living with your voice!
