To the Point

We ate at my aunt's favorite restaurant, Chili's. Since it was her birthday she got to chose. This one is located at 6302 NW 9th Street, Pompano Beach, Florida. I've been to many Chili's and find them pretty consistent from location to location.

A Closer View

Decor

The one huge difference between this location and others was the décor. Rather than having beautiful tables inlaid with ceramic or lots of pictures and artifacts on the walls there was little decoration. I know that Chili's is not as decorated as Ruby Tuesday (reviewed) or Applebee's but I found this one strangely empty except for a plant on the counter.

Service

We arrived late in the day but before dinner time. The waiter recognized my aunt and was very nice to us. He chatted a bit and knew what my aunt wanted. They've take the Asian Chicken Salad off the menu but she still gets it. My mom and two aunts got it with fried chicken and I got the chicken grilled. He apparently had no problem and neither does the chef in making something that is totally not on the menu.

I reviewed Marlee's and noted how boring the Asian Salad was. Granted I got it without chicken but it cost about as much as this large salad with chicken. We paid about $8.50. The salad was fresh and the chicken was plentiful. It was white meat and really tender. They topped it with white rice noodles - not quite in the Cheesecake Factory but pretty good. Although bread doesn't come with the meal the last time my aunt went to Chili's she said to this sane waiter "Don't you serve bread?" He brought out a basket of garlic bread. This time she just asked for the bread so keep that in mind.

I you eat blooming onions you must try theirs. I didn't have it at this location but in all the other Chili's in which I've had it I've thought it excellent.

They have a guiltless grill area on the menu with dishes that have fewer calories, carbohydrates and fat than other items on the menu.

There is a children's menu for those under 12. Your child can choose from among 11 meals such as a rib basket for or a grilled cheese sandwich in the $5.00 range

I certainly would go back but might not go out of my way because I really like the salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays. Still this has a casual atmosphere with friendly staff

Other information

Telephone number: 508-824-6536.

Own parking lot: Yes.

Hours:11:00a.m. to 11:00p.m. daily. On Friday and Saturday they stay open until 12:00a.m.

Reservations: No but you can "call ahead." They will have your name when you come in but can't promise that they will have a table.

Jo's Viewpoint

I like it! I'd like to give it 3.5 stars but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

I'm a big fan of Chili's, but one thing I've noticed is the huge contrast between certain locations. Down here in Texas, I'll eat at Chili's any night! The food is tasty, hot, and served promptly. The locations are fun and usually hoppin', and the staff are always nice. Up North in Michigan, though, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Chili's. The few times I've been, the food wasn't good, the service was terrible, and the restaurants were grubby and dirty. I don't know why that is - maybe just because the types of food they serve aren't Northern-friendly. If you're in Texas, though, it's worth a visit!

Chili's is usually pretty good. Sorry you had a bad experience. I like both Chili's and Ruby Tuesday. I only get to eat at Chili's when we travel as we don't have one here.

Hi Jo, Good to see you! I have not been to Chili's in a long time. I have noticed that the quality of Mexican food away from the border has markedly improved, even at Taco Bell so it may be pretty good and I'll try it on your say-so. All the best!

It's sooo funny-- everyone says Chilli's isnt a bad casual restaurant but I am just not a fan. One just owned up in my area and I have gone a few times. I find he food soooo medicore and not that cheap. I would much prefer a little mom and pop! :) But, I am glad your aunt had a good bday at the place she wanted to go!!

So the picture of Chili's was lost via Picassa as well. I should review that service!
