A friend of mine recently invited me to a guys outing at Chicago Indoor Racing. I had no idea what to expect and I have to say I had a fantastic time. Chicago Indoor Racing has three tracks and more than 85,000 square feet of space. The main event is Kart Racing. The Kart's are small, but mighty. According to the web site, "The Bowman Race Karts are powered by Honda's state of the art GX200 engine. The engine is unrestricted which allows this 200cc four cycle motor to rev up to a quick 5,500rpm."
We were on track #3 which is a "1400 foot long and reserved exclusively for special events, leagues and Chicago Indoor Racing's monthly 200 lap Team Endurance Race. Track three features eleven turns, the Red Bull Chicane, Jim Beam Bend and the Klein Tools Corner. Don't miss an opportunity to compete on this unforgettable track. Accommodates up to 16 drivers or teams per race."
The combination of these crazy little kart's and the twist and turns of the course are fantastic. When you add on top of that the competitive driving aspect of it, this was basically one awesome way to spend an evening.
As you can see from the pictures they have you wear a red jump suit and helmet. Although we were going at very fast speeds I never felt at all in danger. I sweat like there was no tomorrow and earned a new respect for professional race car drivers. Believe it or not, it is hard, hard work, but great fun.
You gotta try it. Makes for a great group event.
