Chi Flat Iron —

I am the proud owner of hair that hates humidity. My hair gets wavy and frizzy and drives me nuts during the summer months! In the past (primarily when I was pregnant), I had so little time to do my hair that I opted for a Japanese hair straightening process called Thermal Reconditioning. The process is long (takes 8 hours to complete), very expensive and can only be done by a handful of people-- even in Chicago.

The thermal reconditioning kept my hair straight for over a year, but my hair has outgrown the process. Now I am back to a little wave and more frizz than I am comfortable with. I didnt want to go through the thermal process again so I decided to call my stylist and get some advice.

She recommended that I go buy the Chi iron and also use some anti-frizz shampoo. (I bought Aveda). She assurred me, and so did all of your reviews, that the Chi straightener would be super easy to use and do the trick. I have to admit, I was skeptical.

But, after being aggrevated enough with my hair, I went onto Amazon and looked for the Chi straightening iron. Per all of the reviews, I was prepared to spend about $120. To my surprise, there was a big sale-- $60 for the original and $80 for the turbo. The Chi hair iron (turbo- which has heat handles and a temperature setting) was worth the extra $20 in case my kids picked it up. So, I bought it!

When I got my chi flat iron - 2 days later (although i did free saver shipping and didnt expect it for a week) I washed my hair instantly. I then plugged in the iron and in 5 minutes flat, I was ready to try it out. It took 5 minutes to heat up and 5 minutes to get the frizz and wave out of my hair. Even with my imperfect technique, it looked great. The chi flat iron works. It really works!

Thanks Chi for making a the best flat iron. Anyone suffering from waves, curls or frizz will finally feel free!

P.S. A few tips for new buyers:
  • After reading many reviews, I found that it was smarter to buy the 1" and not the 2". The 1" lets you get to the hard to reach places. You should only get the 2" chi flat iron if you have super long hair.
  • The turbo does have a temperature control and red handles for the top and bottom of the flat iron
  • Check for online deals. I got a steal! Maybe I was just lucky!

Thanks so much Jolie for your review on the popular Chi Flat Iron. Your review was written well with lots of useful information and helpful suggestions to us ladies that are out here shopping for a new flat iron. One that works! The price of these things has always bothered me, I have to be honest. It appears from your review and personal experience the Chi Flat Iron is well worth every dollar. More importantly, finally there is a flat iron available to the public that does the job right. I will be shopping around for a deal like you got Jolie and thanks for this helpful write up on the Chi Flat Iron. A great review my friend!

In response to CrystaBush's comment from Jun 24, 2008 at 9:39PM:

Hi CrystaBush,

I highly recommend a Chi Iron and you get the hair straightening serum that goes along with it . The Chi Iron is a cermaic iron and one of the best I have used.

Section your daughters hair in four (because her hair is thick) use dime size amount rub between palms of hand and pull throughly through that section of hair. Take the hair in one inch section and about the thickness of paper maybe a little more pull the Chi Iron starting as close the scalp without touching it as possible(WILL CAUSE BURNS IF YOU TOUCH SCALP) pulling through that section of hair very quickly. Don't stop in one spot it may cause scorching of the hair. Repeat steps on all four section of your hair.

I don't recommend the use of any sort of thermal hair appliances without parental supervision. Can cause serious burns to scalp and skin. If you are unsure how to use the appliance seek professional advice. Practice with the appliance turned off to get the feel of using the iron.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Ugh, I have thick, wavy hair syndrome. I straighten it every day or I look a complete mess.
I need to check this chi iron out. I never even heard of it before!

Hi Jolie!
Thank you for the great review! My daughter has been trying every flat iron she can find and they have all fallen short in some way. I'm going to get her one of these Chi's and hopefully her never ending hair woe's will be over.
Thanks again for the review:)

I totally agree! I have a Chi and it works really well. Having the right styling products to protect your hair is so important.

Sounds great, since I was just starting I bought a really inexpensive ceramic one, but would love to have something a little safer for the girls
