I grew up around cars.  Not just any cars... but muscle cars.  My father spent more time rebuilding engines, tuning carbs and tweaking manifolds then I can remember.  My first daily driver was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am Motor Sports Edition.  I then graduated to a 1973 Corvette with an L82.

So when it comes time for me to go car shopping, my standards for performance can be very high.  But, now I have three children so I need so room while still feeding my need for power.  Keeping in mind that I wanted to continue to get over 20 miles per gallon and have a particular distaste for mini-vans I found myself shopping for a family sedan... but not your everyday family car.

Enter the Chevrolet Impala SS.  At first, I was looking at the 94-96 Impala SS with the LT1 but decided I wanted to buy a new car, not used.  So, I went out to my local Chevrolet dealer and they found me the car I was looking for.  A 2004 Impala SS with leather interior, sunroof, heated seats, CD/Cassette premium sound system, OnStar, XM Satellite Radio, Remote Keyless Entry and all the other upgrades that come with the SS package.

This car is one of the best performing four door sedans I've ever driven.  The Supercharger performs flawlessly pushing more power to the engine as my demands increase  The transmission shifts seamlessly, even when pushed hard and the cabin is quiet enough to hold a reasonable conversation on the built in OnStar Satellite phone.  The braking system is responsive and tight as is the steering and suspension allowing me to handle tight curves and increased speeds without blinking.  An added bonus is that I average over 24 miles to the gallon back and forth to work and when taking car trips it hits 30.

Not only is the cabin quiet but it is roomy and comfortable.  The seats in the front hold the driver tightly in the seat while providing good back support.  The back is roomy enough for my three children (in car seats) or two full sized adults without too much of a hassle.  The sound system is very good whether listening to XM Radio, a CD or my iPod via the cassette player.
