I went looking for something to replace the family mini van because it was time. The kids were grown and for the most part, gone. I still needed something that would carry four or five people at times and would still haul stuff in the back under cover.
Well, I found this SUV and the price was right. It drove well and had a bit of get up and go even if my mini van could still outrun it. I got in and immediately took a road trip. Understand that I purchased this vehicle used with only 6000 miles. I began to realize why someone traded it in after only a few miles. The trip revealed that highway mileage was decent if you didn't put your foot in it. Average was around 23-24 miles per gallon. Only after I got home and started driving locally did I encounter the nightmare at the pump. Mileage droped to 13-14 and at times I only got 8-10. I thought someone was stealing my gas.
OK, so I go get a locking cap and still the same results. I go back to the dealer and complain. He tells me to drive it for a month and use the same pump at the same station every time to measure my usage more efficiently. Only problem was that I was not always around that pump when I needed gas. Anyway, to make a long story short, I kept the vehicle and drove it for a few more thousand miles. Almost like a switch was thrown, the mileage improved. After I put close to 16,000 miles on it, I started to get between 14 and 20 miles a gallon.
Now that I can live with. It still get sorry mileage if I use the get up and go it has, but hey, at least this way I won't be getting any tickets for speeding. :-) Overall, I can't complain about anything else. It does everything I need a car to do and it looks good doing it.
If you purchase an Equinox, you might just find that you love Chevrolet again.
