I am very much past a casual relationship with my car, it's blossomed into a full fledged torrid relationship. Passion with the touch of the throttle. Time traveling surrounded by a Bose sound system. The ultimate compaction of time and space. Imagine being pinned to your seat on a high three second ride to the 60 mile per hour marker. Lightening with four tires to tie you to earthly bounds, and a couple of cup holders to boot.
A 400 horsepower LS2, naturally aspirated, electronically fuel injected V8, producing 400 ft.-lbs. of torque to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission, this atop F1 no flat racing tires of 18 inch diameter in the front, and 19 inch in the back. The ability to reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour and attain a 12 second quarter mile is a mere bonus feature. Stock. Absolutely, positively, stock.
The truly amazing thing about the aforementioned beast is it may the only "green" supercar on the road, obtaining, (through personal experience), 18 miles per gallon around town, and up to 29 miles per gallon on the freeway. This meets manufacturers specs for around town, and actually exceeds them for the highway, (mileage information obtained from my personal on board computer). The C6 is also ineligible for the dreaded "gas guzzler" tax from our friends in the federal government. Would you have guessed?
Living in the North Cascades up by the Canadian border, I'm blessed with a multitude of roads that seem to beg for a sports car to drive over them. Hairpins, dog legs, on and off camber mountain roads, and the occasional straight away. This kind of driving requires quite a bit of a suspension, and the suspension for the C6 was made for this type of driving. The suspension system is state of the art. Magnetic Selective Ride. Fluids inside the shock absorption system contain microspheres that become magnetized when charged, and bond with the walls of the system, and other microspheres. The result is a fully adjustable suspension which you can set for touring mode, or hunker down for cornering in the sport mode with just the flick of the switch.
A number of optional enhancements can be had ranging from reasonable to unreasonable in price. Big surprise huh!? A variety of interior packages, custom pedals, shift and brake boots to match your exterior, customized trunk and hood panels, windscreens, you name it, they can sell it to you with a Corvette logo emblazoned thereon. Trust me, if you can think of a way to customize your car, there's a Genuine Corvette Accessory just waiting for you, because chances are, they already thought of it for you.
Toyota Prius owners take notice, the "green" monster is amongst you.
