My family really likes Jimmy Buffett, so we decided we'd check out the new Cheeseburger in Paradise after white water rafting at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. We had, to say the least, worked up an appetite.

Cheeseburger in Paradise in Huntersville is very new. There's a small sign off the highway. Then, you drive back in a developing area - all the way to the end. It's not far. It just seems like you may be lost. But there it is - in all it's newness and flashy colors. You can't miss Cheeseburger in Paradise if you keep driving.

This is one of those cute theme restaurants. You walk in and think you're at the beach. The whole thing is centered around the bar with tables surrounding the bar area. They have palm huts and lots of neon.

We did get the high tables with the tall chairs. Those really are not comfortable. Our feet were dangling for a pretty long time. I think I'd ask for a normal table or a booth the next time.

The wait staff must be trained and prompted to go for the laid back approach with a little edge. I think it's probably hard to hire people and make them funny. Loud people make my boys a bit jumpy. Bless them. I just laugh at the jokes and talk junk back.

The menu is not huge, and frankly I like that. They do have a number of fish dishes, but burgers take center stage. We went with hamburgers, although I'm not supposed to do that (not often anyway). I could have had them replace my meat with a veggie burger (no extra charge), but of course I didn't. Bad me.

They make the burgers to order - cooked up fresh and as you like them. We like ours done but not hockey pucks. They got that just right.

These are some heap big burgers. I could only eat half of my swiss and mushroom burger. It was very good, but I don't much like those little slimy canned mushrooms. I prefer fresh mushrooms which are dryer. The boys went with bacon cheese burgers. Yum. I like those too, but I tried to go with the veggie option. I'll probably just save up my fat allowance and do the bacon next time.

The boys liked the French fries. They were OK - shoestring with lots of seasoned salt. Those kids like seasoned salt. I'm not so big on salt - one vice I don't have.

I don't usually mention the bathrooms. These were big and very clean. The thing that caught my eye though was the hand painting on the walls. I thought the fish and greenery looked hand painted. I checked. Yes. Nice touch.

Another neat feature was that the whole front of the restaurant was garage doors. One was opened. I was going to go out of that (after paying of course), but they were covered. I think it was just screens. They may have glass there too to keep in the air conditioning.

There was a small stage beside where we were sitting. I think it would be fun to go when they were having live music. But that would be at night I'm sure and a party crowd - probably not suitable for my underage boys.

We enjoyed our trip to Cheeseburger in Paradise, and we'd go back hungry. It's a cute place with good food.

In response to skbreese's comment from Jun 28, 2008 at 9:33AM:

It's a sister restaurant (-: I'd guess the target market is a little younger on this one. That's OK though. I enjoyed it - and I'm not that young.

Sounds a lot like Margaritaville, a Buffett themed restaurant I visited in New Orleans. Nice review. Sheila

Save some room for the chocolate nachos. My youngest was really wanting some of those. The burgers filled us up though, so we could not eat dessert.
