The Chateau Frontenac isn't just an upscale chateau hotel, but it's also the key landmark in this beautiful Canadian city. If you look at any brochure on Quebec City, or even travel guidebook covers for the city and region, that stunning castle you see in those pictures is this hotel.
With that, you will be nature staying right in the heart of the city. Besides obviously being pretty close to the top city attraction, the Chateau Frontenac is centrally located mere steps from much of the city's best offerings. Just outside of the hotel lobby, you can see the Saint Lawrence River, or visit Quebec's charming lower city filled with cute boutiques, art galleries and sidewalk cafes.
I have stayed at many upscale hotels, including various castle hotels, and there is one thing that truly makes the Chateau Frontenac stand out beyond all the obvious reasons to stay there. The staff is exceedingly helpful and friendly.
At one stay at the hotel, we arrived at this posh hotel after two long days of heavy driving from Virginia. We were wearing jeans and t-shirts, and we looked pretty ragged. I expected to get a bit of snobbishness from the hotel staff, but they treated us with complete respect and cordiality.
Although this is the perfect hotel for a couples getaway or honeymoon, unlike some places that fit that bill it is also extremely family and dog friendly.
The hotel features babysitting services, as well as children's activities. It allows dogs under 20 pounds (for an extra $25 Canadian), and also provides its dog guests with a bowl, mat, blanket and treats. The hotel even has a Canine Ambassador for those who must travel away from their dogs. Santol is available for petting or to accompany guests on walks.
To stay at this hotel is a true experience beyond what most accommodations can offer. If you keep your eye out, especially during the shoulder and off seasons, you can even find a great deal to make this hotel more affordable.
