Chase - Freedom Card —

I've been using the Chase Freedom card for a few years now and it has turned out to be the best one I've found so far! The deal is that you get cash back for purchases, but it's not just any cash back. In general you get 1% cash back, but there are certain areas where you'll get 2% cash back, and even further you get extra cash back on your top 3 spend categories each month.... or something like that :)

The rewards are cash back, or I believe you can also use them to shop their online store but I've never done that. As usual, I hold out for the best reward so I can get the best bang for my buck. If you save up 100 pts - you get $100 back. But if you save up to 200 pts and suddenly get $250 back! So of course I always save up to 200 points so I can get the extra $50.

This card has no "rewards" limits that I'm aware of. I can earn and earn and keep being rewarded. My mom uses a card that limits how much she is allowed to earn each year so she is constanty monitoring it and switching which card she uses so she can earn rewards on every purchase. I don't have to do that - I just keep earning. And I charge everything - my insurance, my bills (the ones that let me use a credit card), and every purchase.

I saw some people complaining this card has a High Interest Rate. Well I've never noticed because I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't charge ANYTHING you can't pay off the following month. If you are paying interest on a credit card, the rewards suddenly become a moot point because interest cost more than your rewards! So be smart about it, and only use a credit card if you can pay your bill each month.

Another great point about this card is that it is linked up easily to my other Chase accounts so I can see all my accounts with on log in. That makes it very easy to see what I owe vs what I have in savings, etc. Finally, it's a Visa card so it's accepted everywhere. I once had a rewards card that was a Discover card - and half the places I went wouldn't take the card so I was always missing out on points. Most every place around takes Visa, so the Chase Freedom Card is truly the best option for rewards cards I have found so far!

They must have made improvements b/c of the fact that they had issues in other ways (their card wasn't taken everywhere and crappy rewards!) Take the 5% while you can!!!

If Discover didn't hand out money these days, I'd give mine up in a flash. Right now I'm getting 5% back on department stores. In the fall, gas purchases will get 5%. Otherwise it's 1%. Glad your Visa is working out so well!

I carried a discover for a long time but was annoyed that the rewards were all gift cards and I had to save up A LOT before I could use them. Of course they claim "double the rewards" but they only doubled CERTAIN places and the choices were limited. As for where it is taken - I was in Toronto in 2002 with a huge pile of clothes. Went to pay and said "do you take discover" and they said "What is discover?" Now Visa is the way to go :) Lucky for me I was with my mom and she had a Visa. Now I'll never use anything else!

Good review and you're right on about Discover. That's the card that I've carried for years. My husband stays close by with his Visa. I should think the savings benefits would inspire people these days!

Thanks for clarrifying, I didn't know that but still it doesn't stop you from getting rewards (it just takes longer). What I really mean by no "rewards" limits is that my mom has a few cards that actually put a stop on her rewards points once she has earned a certain amount of money for the year. At least with this card, you still get points, even if it's less. Thanks for reading :)

Okay Viva,
Turn around is fair play. You checked my review and I went thru yours. This is your statement:
"This card has no "rewards" limits that I'm aware of. I can earn and earn and keep being rewarded."
Well as I learned thru charge and learn process there is a limit on the 2% additional cash back of $12.00 per month i.e. $600 X 2%=$12. So you don't earn unlimited bonus % but you do continue to get the 1% on EVERYTHING. So still the best deal to date.
