When the times get tough, everyone starts looking on where they can save a little and start getting rid of debt. I went to from having a 7 year steady job to being laid off and on unemployment. Chase sent me a notice that they will be changing my APR to a much higher one, I had the option to take it or close the card and pay the balance at the old APR. Since my card limit was about 6500 UDS I decided to keep the card just in case I need it. They changed the APR to the higher one, about 24.99 and a month later they decided to close my card. Now I not only have to pay the higher interest but also have a credit card cancelled by the merchant, that is no good for the credit history. This credit card was excellent when I signed up for it. They were giving 3% cash back on 3 different categories of purchases each month - whichever category was used the most. (For example, I usually got 3% cash back on groceries, restaurants and pet stores.) There were a bunch of other categories that it would give rewards for, too.
Then all of a sudden they CUT the rewards program on Oct 31, 2009, and then they just give 1% cash back on everything. Almost all rewards cards give 1% back on everything. This change was extremely upsetting and did not seem fair.
