Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 2005 —
I was excited when I learned about Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I rarely go see a movie in the theater, but this was an exception. I also bought the DVD when it became available. The original movie was excellent - but so was this one! It's very different, and I think it deserves to be judged as such. It would have been really lame if Johnny Depp had simply tried to copy Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. He made the character his own. i recommend that it be watched with an open mind. No, it's not like the original. In some ways it's even better. And then there's the Oompa Loompa songs... but no remake can ever be perfect, I guess.
