Pros

First detail: I live in a remote region. We have no choices in Cellular coverage: take what's here, or leave it.

So began my semi-forced relationship with Cellular One. Yes, I could opt not to carry a phone, but I have a toddler and need to think of safety and my ability to contact the outside world if we have a vehicle issue or something. I digress, naturally (said i was wordy, didn't I?)

The pros: We have local coverage.

The cons: You must desperately want to live with dropped calls, despite being in sight of the cell tower. You must be willing to deal with sometimes incompetent customer service (and sometimes very nice people too). You need to gleefully take the obnoxious attitude of their Accounts Receivable department, even if the billing mistake is their own fault! I received a threatening call on an outstanding balance that was an error on their part. When I explained this, the Acct's receivable person assured me they'd call back... Ha! Next thing I know, the phone is shut off. Kaput.

Finally, using the premise that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, I wrote a letter to Customer Service explaining my annoyance at having the phone shut off (without warning) because of a billing error on THEIR part. I was assured by a Customer Service manager that they would follow up, find out what happened, blah blah blah.... No follow-up, no customer service integrity, and precious little to love about our hit-or-miss service.

The final insult: No competition. I can't go to another company. Hey, I could move! Naw. I like it here, but despise our ONLY choice of phone coverage.

The bottom line: Go elsewhere if you can. They have a stranglehold on those of us in remote areas, and have demonstrated that personnel from Customer Service to their billing department to Acct's Receivable that they simply don't care. Booo..... hiss....
