I have been taking perscription anti-depressants on and off for over 10 years. When my insurance denied my request for Lexapro, which had been working for me, my doctor perscribed me generic Celexa (citalopram) instead. I have been happy with how it has been helping me. I stopped taking it for a few months while I was pregnant and found myself in a very bad place. I went back on it and have been taking it ever since. I took it through both of my pregnancies and while breast-feeding. While it is not advisable to do so, I haven't had any negative side effects and both of my children are healthy and thriving. I am very grateful that the generic version of Celexa is available as it is affordable and works just the same. I haven't had any negative side effects, though if I forget to take it for 2 days, I do get a bad headache that subsides once I take it. I would recommend this medication to those struggling with clinical depression. It isn't a magic pill or a cure all, but it does help to lift me out of a horrible and negative slump caused by a lack of dopamine production.
