I'm always looking for fun things to do with my kids on the weekends, and one thing we all love to do is to explore a "land down under". Underground that is. As in cave tours.

We do quite a few cave tours because it's fun, it's educational, it's interesting, it's beautiful, it's totally natural, and because it's a very cool thing to do (literally! It's like 68 degrees underground even when it's a skull-scorching 104 in the shade up top.).

One of the most naturally beautiful caves we've visited in Texas is the Cave Without a Name, located outside Boerne Texas. Boerne is in the heart of the infamous Texas Hill Country, maybe a half hour or so northwest of San Antonio. Though it can be something of a challenge to actually FIND, the Cave Without a Names is fairly close to San Antonio, making it an excellent family day trip for visitors to the Alamo Ciy.

Not only is the Cave Without a Name beautiful and natural, it's also affordable fun: $14 for adults and $7 for kids. A tour takes a bit over an hour, but it's not really a very hard cave tour. The ground inside isn't slick or muddy, as some cave floors tend to be --- even during a wet season (if we ever happen to get one).

Cave Without a Name is one of the most lightly visited caves in Texas (even though it's also the best and most beautiful). They don't really do any advertising, so passers through who figure out what to see based on who has the glitziest brochures in the highway rest stops won't ever even know about it. It's kind of like a badly kept secret. Only people who "know" will know to go there, but everybody who is into caves in Texas knows, and knows that Cave Without a Name is the "best of the bunch".

I like Cave Without a Name because it's so clean, natural, and inviting. I pull up to their modest visitor center / gift shop and its dead quiet, mellow, and friendly. There's nothing tacky or tasteless here (like there is at some other Texas caves). It's low key, and the cave is more natural as well.

Whether you're more of a stalactite girl or a stalagmite guy, Cave Without a Name is the cave to see in Central Texas. It's a beauty!

Great review! It may not stay so quiet with your inviting description. What lucky kids you have to see so many interesting places!
