Over the past several years, I have collected more suede shoes than I have had in my life. With that, comes the realization that stepping in rain or mud one time will ruin a pair of light colored shoes. I found this Cavalier Protect-All Rain and Stain Repellent at one of the shoe stores I was shopping at. This product effectively repels water and stains. The directions also state that it is good on leather but to be honest, I haven't tried it yet. Usually, with leather, a good polish or leather conditioner will keep boots and shoes in good condition. The directions state to let the item treated set for an hour and then re-apply for best results. Occasional re-spraying will keep the repellent in force. This is an aerosol can so be sure to have proper ventilation prior to use. This product is a Kiwi brand and that brings about a trust because Kiwi has been around for years. My advice to anyone using this product would be to look at this additional expense as a way to maintain your leather and suede products for a longer period of time. If you do that, it seems like a small price to pay.
