My wife Aand I visited Catamaran in late August looking for a quiet getaway. Staff was nice and helpful. There were a lot of couples with babies and children, which we didn't expect or enjoy. This made the pool and beach areas less relaxing. Otherwise, the grounds were beautifully landscaped. There are... read full review »

We had a satisfying experience at the Catamaran. Definitely located in a great area of the beaches. The hotel has extremely outdated beds and furniture. The rooms are quite spacious but you can hear everything going on in the room next to you.

The Catamaran is comprised of numerous two-story units and a 12 story tower. All the rooms in the tower above the fourth floor facing south offer a great view of Mission Bay AND the ocean. The kitchenette has a full size refrigerator, an oven-range, a microwave and sink. The hotel's outdoor landscaping is very clean and scenic. Large rooms are very comfortable and include a sofa, two lounge chairs and plenty of floor and table lamps and two bar stools near the kitchenette. We enjoyed the proximity to La Jolla's excellent fine dining restaurants as well as to Sea World. We regret we... read full review »

We love this hotel! Each time we go to San Diego, we explore staying elsewhere, but each time, we end up here. The location is perfect, it is on Mission Bay, where there is a wonderful pedestrian walkway for bikes and walking almost all around the Bay. Easy access to the ocean, (2 blocks) and great restaurants and shopping close by. The hotel has a dock with sailboats and paddle boats for rent, but we will save that for our next trip...we just didn't have the time! But each morning we stopped at the little coffee kiosk on the dock and got our morning fix! We actually stayed for 4 days,... read full review »

This hotel was only a block and a half from the ocean. Dining and shopping were all walking within walking distance. The best dining was only 2 blocks away. Stop in at Nick's for the best seafood. The Green Flash down by the boardwalk was fantastic too. We also heard from other guests that the food at World Famous was also excellent. The pool area was clean and inviting, I wouldn't suggest swimming in the bay (really weedy) but after all the walking the hot tub was wonderful. The best deal at the hotel is the lounge happy hour. Beware of the Mai Tai, it's a killer. But they have $1.00 draft... read full review »

The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in San Diego, CA was spectacular. The gardens are so beautiful with streams and small waterfalls running through the property. It is designated a bird sancuary with a variety of ducks, 2 black swans, and 6 parrots (some will talk to you!), as well as many other wild birds. The rooms was elegantly furnished and decorated. The mattress was older with springs and was a little uncomfortable. The bathroom had a separate vanity area with great lighting. The room had a bar type of sink with a refigerator below. The closet was large. It had a nice sized balcony overlooking... read full review »

A friend and I decided very last minute (a few hours before) to head to Tijuana and San Diego for an overnight getaway. After a couple hours in TJ, we were ready to get back to the states, check-in to our last min. choice hotel and get some seafood someplace nice. Were we pleasantly surprised to find out that we had booked our night at a beautiful bird sanctuary Resort and Spa. The Catamaran Resort & Spa was amazing, with lush landscaping, exoctic birds, a large pool with jacuzzi! In the morning you wake up to mallards and ducks at your door. My personal fave was Chadwick the parrot. We... read full review »

This hotel had a lot to offer, I only wished we were able to stay longer to enjoy some of the amenities. (movie night, luaus, kid activities, bike riding, etc....) The breakfast was outstanding, they had a buffet but I opted for the menu items and both times were very happy. The room we had was sufficient, we ended up in the Towe. It would have been nice to stay in one of the rooms that weren't in the tower. Beautiful property and convienantly located without being along a Hotel Lane One thing was our bathroom sink leaked, not to where it was keeping us up at night, but the hotel room... read full review »

Catamaran first upgraded us (at a cost, of course) to two rooms on ground floor (elder parents in one room) from the 4th floor tower, each room only one away from the other and both rooms facing lawn, beach walk, and bay. When heater in one room didn't work, the manager personally brought a heater to the room, after giving a choice to change rooms or have portable heater. Rooms had separate bedroom, bath, and nice living room with pull-out couch, round table and comfy chairs, tv, wetbar, lovely bay view. Everything was very clean, sheets and towels of good quality and in abundance.... read full review »

We typically go for low cost hotels when we travel because we spend very little time actually at the hotel outside of sleeping. We're really on the go and try to see everything when we're in a new city. However, the Catamaran was so nice and so relaxing, it was a new hotel experience for us. You actually wanted to hang out there and not leave. It was affordable, but luxury amenities were there if you were so inclined. The beautiful setting inside the courtyard with the water and the ducks was like a small zoo right at the hotel. I would definitely go back to Catamaran, and maybe next... read full review »

The Catamaran was so much nicer than I ever expected it to be. My prior San Diego hotel experiences left me not wanting to go back to San Diego, but this time I had such a wonderful time that I want to go back as soon as possible. The hotel was in such a nice area, right across the street from the beach and we had a great room with a view. The hotel had a gym which was free to use and a spa as well. The staff was very friendly and their customer service was outstanding! We were upgraded to a studio at no cost which had a kitchen and it was so much nicer, since we have a 2 year old. There... read full review »

The Catamaran Resort & Spa was fantastic. The room was spacious and clean, with an amazing view of Mission Beach. The hotel lobby was beautiful and offered exceptional bay access. The staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel also cares for giant parrots and a wide variety of ducks, awesome for the kids. The only discrepancy I can think of are the two rickety, old noisy elevators in the tower. There were a couple of times I was afraid we wouldn't make it out of those things, but we did. There's also delicious Mexican and coastal cuisine within walking distance. Try the oysters at The Green Flash,... read full review »

upon entering the Catamaran hotal and spa you get the feeling of being in a tropic getaway. The staff was very warm and friendly to others as well as myself. The check-in was completed quickly and all my questions were answered with a smile. The room was more then i exspected...it was very comfortable, huge and the view was to die for. The location was excelent, we walked to every where we needed to go. The beds were nice and cozy to come back to and sleep was not hard to find. I woke-up feeling wonderful and very well rested. I am looking forward to my next stay.

Very comfortable room with a great view of the bay area. Well landscaped walking paths with a wonderful array of birds including colorful ducks and a pair of rare black African swans. Many goods restaurants within easy walking distance. Public transportation is just across the street. The Pacific Ocean with wonderful surf is only one block walking distance away. This was a great place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I definately want to go back!

Dining: Short Walk, A great breakfast place is only a short walk away. You must eat at the "The Eggery". Also evening dining at "World...

Due to the age of the hotel, and the fact that it was high season and very crowded, I had difficulty pulling into the front of the hotel. With no where to park to drop off the luggage, I drove into the guest parking ($11 a day). The only parking was on the third floor of the parking structure which had no elevator. Carrying our luggage ourselves, my daughter fell down the stairs and sprained her ankle so badly, she is in an air cast and on crutches for 3 weeks. We hadn't even checked in. The hotel was very nice, but claimed no responcebility and did nothing to compensate us at all. Next time... read full review »
