Casio - Exilim EX-Z75 digital camera —

We bought the Casio Exilim EX-Z75 Digital Camera because our old one takes floppies and was limited in resolution and number of pictures. Well, we had a coupon and haggled a great deal too--always a good thing!

I was able to set up the date/time and learn how to use the camera while sleep deprived and with the "help" of three small children. It takes great pictures that are clear. Even my 6-year-old can take great shots! The view in the camera is just a tad smaller than the actual shots so I can cut off the top of someone's head in the camera and may actually luck up and get the whole person on print.

I found out rather quickly that we needed an SD card if I wanted to take more than three pictures without a card. I hear that most digital cameras in this price range are this way. Downloading shots is getting easier and faster as I get used to doing that rather than sticking a floppy in the drive.

I wish I had haggled a deal for a carrying case. That would have been a nice touch, but those are sold separately. It's small enough to fit in my pocket, but I opted to buy a case with a zipper at the Dollar Tree. UPDATE: I have read that some sources do not recommend using a case because it can force dirt or sand around the lens. The case I have is not snug, so I think I'm ok on that one.

This camera can even take small movies, I believe, but I have never used that part of the camera because we have a separate video camera and I have heard that shooting video can really eat up the battery quickly.

I haven't had any problems with the camera, so I haven't needed to contact Casio.

UPDATE: I did drop the camer TWICE. (I really should use the wrist strap.) I was just sick when the screen showed up LENS ERROR the second time. I though my faithful friend that has taken over 1,000 pictures was going to give it up. Well, I worked with it for a little while and it is back up and running. Hoorah!

UPDATE: THEN, my battery went dead. I don't know if it might have had something to do with the drop. I could not find Casio name brand batteries at Wal-Mart, and theirs were about $25, so I ended up purchasing a battery from AthruZ Closeouts on eBay and also purchased a refurbished camera just like mine from the same company on eBay with good results. The items were packaged well and worked fine and are still working, and the costs were competitive. My daughter, who is now 7, took nearly 200 pictures in two days! I will mention that it is a bit difficult to remove the battery from the camera. It has a button that pops it out partially, but it is hard to grab the edges of the battery in order to pull it out.

Overall, the Casio Exilim EX-Z75 is a great, compact camera that takes pretty clear pictures. I recommend an SD card for anyone taking pictures with this camera. An extra battery is not a bad idea if you wish to take loads of shots and don't have time to re-charge if the battery does go dead. If you wish to see other shots, just click on my profile page or my other reviews. I have taken well over 1,000 pictures, and many of them are here on my reviews and profile. This camera probably would not fit the needs of a professional photographer, but for a busy mother of three small kids, I am thoroughly enjoying catching many beautful moments to remember these precious times.
