    Pixar Film, Great Celebrity Voices

Intro
Living in a house with a 44-year-old self-described “Gearhead”, and a 13-year-old that is very much the same, I don't know quite how we made it this far without seeing the Pixar film Cars. Getting rather bored with the offerings lately on Starz on Saturday night, I decided to look for something on Pay-Per-View, and Cars was the only thing rated PG or lower that my kids hadn't already seen.

Plot
The film revolves around a rookie car, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), in a fictional stock car race. He's so self-assured, he fires his crew chief and works without a pit crew. He's got two female fans that flash him, that is flash their headlights at him, after a tie for first place. He excitedly looks forward to the next race on the other side of the country, being driven along Route 66 in luxury inside Mack the Truck, voiced by John Ratzenberger, who has voiced a  character in every Pixar  film to date, starting with Toy Story.

Mack starts falling asleep on the road, doesn't notice that McQueen has fallen out of the back, and continues on to the big race without him. McQueen is desperate to get to the big race and gets lost, tearing up some roads in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs in his fruitless attempt to find his own way. He's impounded and makes friends with a local tow truck, Mater, voiced by Larry the Cable Guy. He ends up in court, meets Bonnie Hunt-voiced attorney Sally, a Porsche, and is sentenced by the judge, voiced by Paul Newman, to fix all the roads before he leaves town.

Summary
Other voices are provided from Cheech Marin and Tony Shalhoub, among others. Of course we all know how it will end. It's a Pixar movie after all. At first I thought I'd never ben able to connect with the characters, being they were just cars, but by the end, they seemed to all have distinct personalities, kind of like real cars, I guess, when you think about it. It turned out to be a fun family movie, with plenty of car humor, such as McQueen appearing in court wearing a boot instead of handcuffs, and going out in the middle of the night for “tractor tipping” instead of cow tipping. I don't think I'll be adding this movie to my personal library, but it was a fun one to see once.
