Who would have thought an American Idol winner would ever come as far as Carrie Underwood has? Our resident music lovers think Carrie Underwood's second CD, Carnival Ride, is diverse and enjoyable. One fan enthusiastically stated, "If I could buy only one CD this year I would have to pick this one." While one reviewer lamented that Carrie seems to be screaming rather than softly singing, the vast majority love the song choices and the faster tempos on Carnival Ride. Better than the first album

When I listened to the first album, I was impressed with her talent, but I like music that is upbeat and makes me want to dance. So I was a little cautious about this album. Most of her songs so far have been inspirational, but there were few songs of hers that make me smile. This album fixed that. Several of her songs are clever and have a faster beat. This album is very VERY country. Great second album, Carrie just gets better!

I like Carrie Underwood because she has a genuine, honest sound and good old-fashioned talent. She co-wrote 4 of the songs on this album, and they are some of the best pieces. She has a few songs that are very serious, like the one about the soldier dying, and a song about a man leaving her. But there are fun songs too, like "The more boys I meet, the more I like my dog!" and "Last Name," where she gets picked up at a bar. I am a long time listener of carrie Underwood. I believe that this was not her best album. I think she is trying to stay in with the new sound but kind of lost who she really is as a singer. This is my first time writing a review about her. I feel that her voice has grown since american idol because she kind of sucked but now has redeemed herself. On "American Idol," Carrie Underwood was the country girl who never sounded comfortable trying to come on tough. Especially when she was belting Heart's "Alone," the top Idol pick for wussy girls copping an attitude. For her debut, Some Hearts, Underwood dabbled in mainstream pop, but the smash "Before He Cheats" proved her heart was all the way country; the way she sang about a rival singing "some white-trash version of Shania karaoke" was perfect. I have heard very few negative comments about Carrie Underwood's CD and I, for one, think it is great. It's somewhat different from some of her other music but it still shows her fantastic voice. The songs she sings on this CD don't have the same type messages as some of the others and I like it better. I actually watched the American Idol season that Carrie won, and I was impressed with her from day 1. She really can sing and is definately one of those studio creations that is out there today that sounds terrible in concert. She has amazing range, and "Just a Dream" shows it. Fairly good album, but her first one was better and more diverse. The songs were not as meaningful and widespread as her first CD, but still worth the purchase. As a songwriter, I probably pay more attention to the music and lyric content, but as a listener it was pretty good.
