Carrie Underwood comes out with her second album following all the hype from the first multi platinum seller and boy, does she have some job ahead of her if she wants to be as big of a success this time! Critics are bowing at her and the few reviews I've read are stating that she will do it.

So I was quite eager to get this album. I'm not in a band wagon to hail Hallelujah with her this time. I actually listened this several times over the last few days just to let the music sink in, maybe it will take some time?

Sorry, it did not work for me! The whole album comes across as loud and screechy and everyone is trying so hard to prove how masterful they can be that the intimacy and personality is forgotten. Yes Carrie has some great pipes and she will go all over here but I wish she would have slowed down a bit!

Lyrics travel from bad girl to heartbreak, she did not tackle any unexpected areas. I just feel like I was slammed with a hammer after listening the whole album and I need to go outside and get some quiet time, that orchestra is still singing in my brain way too loud!

My takes on each of the new song:

Flat On The Floor

Kind of Dixie Chicks meets Janis Joplin sound. Very saloon fiddle country and yes she pulls it off. But I still am not buying this new image of Carrie, sorry. I bet this will be a hit but personally I cannot see Carrie Underwood flat on the Floor, no matter what.

All-American Girl

Very Cheeeeeewy. I don't like the tune and the lyrics? Can you go more cliché than this track? She lost me in beautiful, wonderful American giiiiiiiiiiiirl. Yikes!

So Small

Slower and quite pretty. I would lie if I'd say I'm blown away but so far this is the best for me. She does oversing this tad I think. Very Martina McBride except Martina has even stronger voice. Maybe in the future she could compete with her...

Just A Dream

I think she is rushing the lyrics, but the "this is just a dream" part sounds great. Very smartly written lyrics, powerful song and if you are a Carrie fan you will love this one. Again she is shouting a bit for my taste.

Get Out Of This Town

She takes on Miranda Lambert on this one! I still think Miranda would have done this even better, Carrie is little too polished and nice to sing about eloping. I will not remember this song tomorrow, that is for sure.

Crazy Dreams

Now she moves to the Keith Urban alley. More shouting and rushing. Maybe my problem with this whole album is her clean cut voice, she needs to be more raspy and edgy to make me believe what she is saying. As of now it sounds like B+ cover without her heart into it.

I Know You Won't

Slower and beautiful start. But here we go again, I actually get the creeps about some of her higher notes, I just don't like her voice there, lower parts are more convincing. I got a headache before this one is over. I got it, she knows that he is not coming, move on girlfriend!

Last Name

Doing the wild girl attitude. This will ride the charts. Easy to sing along. One of the better ones in this album. Brilliantly produced. I think they drag the ending a bit but still I'll buy the story.

You Won't Find This

The tune is so boring I'm just yawning and what is up with all that shouting? You won't find this in my MP3 that is for sure!

I Told You So

Going old fashion and moves over more to my kind of waters, this is country music. Yes, there is those dramatic screamy notes but I like the honest and simple feel and she is very believable.

The More Boys I Meet

What is up with that nasally "I Don't Think So". When she sings about loving her dog more than any guy I get kind of Shania Twain flash back but this song is a mess.

Twisted

More big stage music. I'm bored right from the start, loud, busy, and I might be crazy but she lost me on this album. Why is she doing all this yeeeeeeee shouting? She does not need to.

Wheel Of The World

Finally we are talking about the Carnival Ride. Nice flowing melody and the back singers sound good with her. I guess the whole symphony orchestra is behind her again because this album is so jammed with elements that I start thinking that they did a big time overkill in this album. Maybe I'm just a too much of a simple quiet country girl, but not every song here needed to be so loud and stacked with high notes!

This album was released in October 23rd, 2007 in Arista Label.

I don't have any of her albums and didn't watch her on the award show last night. I did always like her on the show though. Jo

Agreed. She took home two more CMA awards last night. She's amazing. Simon Cowell was right when he predicted she would win Idol and sell more records than any other contestant!
