This was a great cruise. I've been told by several that Carnival is "the fun ship" and that it's mostly tailored to young adults and singles. This is a myth. Carnival has attractions for everyone. We didn't bring our kids with us on this trip, but my wife and I met several families during the course of the cruise whose kids were part of the kids camp -- it got rave reviews.
The ports of call are Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas -- great variety of different places along the Western Mexico coast. The cruise staff, especially the cruise director, was very good about supplying a very thorough and helpful information briefing about our ports of call before we arrived. There was never a moment of uncertainty during the entire cruise.
The cruise staff gets an A+. They actually seemed to be thrilled with the opportunity to help us. It was actually disappointing that my wife and I didn't have more time to pass along positive notes on the cruise staff.
Personally, I'd recommend bringing an alarm clock if you stay in an interior cabin. It's quiet, dark, and restful, and it's quite possible to sleep until 5 pm if there isn't a device to wake you.
