Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine  —

I like to travel and one part of the world I have visited several times is the Caribbean region and the islands of the West Indies. One of the best magazines about this fascinating part of the world is Caribbean Travel & Life, a publication dedicated to enjoying the tourism and culture of the Caribbean islands.

Magazine Commentary:

Caribbean Travel & Life is a fun magazine with enticing photographs, advertisements for places to stay and things to do, classified ads on property for sale, and articles on the people and places that make the Caribbean great. It is similar to other travel magazines in many ways. It includes advertisements for travel- related merchandise, lots of photos to tempt you to plan a visit, and general travel- related tips and advice. But it's also different in the fact that it centers only on one region of the world- the Caribbean. It's also a little different from some others by the fact that besides actual travel, it also talks about the culture and lifestyle of the region. With most other travel publications, you only read about the actual travel. Also, one needs to keep in mind that the featured places in this magazine can include anyplace that borders the Caribbean Sea. Mostly, this would mean articles about one of the many islands. But there is also an occasional article about countries like Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Venezuela, and others.

The pages in this magazine are very colorful- similar to "Islands" magazine, but with more blue. I think that's probably what stands out most of all in the photos- the beautiful blue water of the Caribbean. Looking at the past several issues, every one of them has a cover photo that includes the color blue- either from the sky, the water, or a combination of the two. The photos within the magazine are the same. There are other pictures, yes, but by and large, the blue sky and blue water dominate most of the photographs.

One small improvement that I would like to see with this magazine is to have a map added to the front that highlights the destinations that are featured in that particular issue. "Islands" magazine does this, and I think it would be a nice addition to Caribbean Travel & Life. There is a map near the front of each issue with the title "Our Caribbean" with various islands/countries highlighted, but this has nothing to do with the articles contained within the magazine.

Bottom Line Viewpoint:

Caribbean Travel & Life is a very good magazine, with lots of useful advice and good reading material about traveling to the Caribbean and understanding the local cultures. The cover price is steep, but a subscription brings the per issue price down to a reasonable level. It's worth the price, to read all these articles about the Caribbean and (most of all) to look at all those enticing photographs of the bright blue sea. It makes you want to book a trip to the Caribbean islands asap!
